Hot Pepper.....help!!!! Okay, okay.....I just picked a lot of hot peppers and I was cutting some up to freeze....without gloves. I washed my hands with Dawn and I scartched my eyebrow....NOW my eye lid is BURNING!!!! I rubbed my hands with rubbing alcohol (in hopes to get the oils off), but is there anything that will get the HOT oil off my hands? |
Good question! That happened to me once and my parents put salene solution in my eye & that helped the burning there, but I'm not sure what you could use for your hands  |
I'm trying to think ... a million years ago when I was in high school, I worked at a snack bar where nachos was one of the main attractions. I had this happen with an industrial size can of jalapenos that was spilled. I think I put rubbing alcohol on my arms and hands to neutralize it and then put solarcaine spray on. |
ouch ! im no help ! |
oh no, I know how that feels as I do a lot of cooking before . . . wish I had a tip to ease the pain. :( |
The pain and burning seems to be fading away. I just hope that the rubbing alcohol takes the oils off my hands...as I haven't touched Mojo or Lily yet!!! - Don't want them to get anything on them. |
vegetable or olive oil will stop the area burning immediately. so i have heard. hope this helps |
So are you doing OK now, Jenn? Sure hope so. That stuff burns something awful. And to think people eat it ... |
It's funny because we all love HOT foods, but this on my fingers and on my eyelid about did me in...hee,hee! I did rubbing alcohol, I don't know how many times....then, I did some Olive Oil and OMG....it WORKED!!! My fingers instantly stopped burning!!!! Whoa! That is GREAT!!!! I think I am good now.....next time, I will remember to put the gloves on BEFORE I start working with them. |
you're a better woman than I!!! One little nibble off a jalapeno and I'm crying on the floor...lol! Glad to hear it took the oil off your hands... |
When I was younger I opened a mustard packet and must have squeezed it at the same time and got mustard in my eyes,,,,now that burned too....probably not like your pepper OUCH is all I can say |
Don't forget the gloves!!!!! Be careful. Hope you are feeling better! |

I was going to suggest oil, but I see someone already mentioned that and it worked. The heat from peppers (capsasin) is oil-soluable. So it also helps to rub your hands with oil before you cut them. Also, if you get a soup or stew too hot with any kind of pepper, add more oil. |
