NewYorkers please Can someone tell me if it would be outrageous to take a cab from Mid town Manhattan to Jones Beach long island??? we are going to NYC in August and my dad found the beach online but i have no idea how far one antoher are from eachother... can anyone help?? thanks! |
I use to live in NY and Manhatten is far from Jones Beach. If memory serves me right I believe Jones Beach is in Queens. And that would mean you would have to go from Manhatten through Brooklyn into Queens. Maybe take the subway into Brooklyn and go to Coney Island. I heard they fixed it up. Have fun!:D |
I live in NJ but if I'm not mistaken it's about 35-40miles out to Jones Beach where the theater is located. It will cost an arm and a leg in a cab. You might be able to do it by subway? |
You might just want to rent a car for the day ;) |
heyI did a mapquest from a friends house in midtown to the beach and it says 47 minutes (without traffic) I would think a cab would charge alot! I live in queens and a cab charges around 28 dollars from the city to here. and from here to jones beach is about 35-40 minutes away hope this helps |
thanks :( we'll have to come up with something else.. our days are PACKED monday, tuesday, wednesday and we have a boat tour around manhattan on thrusday but wanted something a little low key for our last afternoon- suggestions? |
yes they would charge you a ton! They are far from each other and cab drivers here like to try to trick you and charge more, you have to negotiate with them to lower the price. |

You can take the LIRR to Jones Beach. What about going to Central Park? If the weather is nice there are always people there, laying out in the sun, riding bikes. |

Why Jones Beach? Is it just for the beach or a concert? There are beaches in Brooklyn and in Queens (Riis Park). Queens is fairly close tro Manhattan. I would either get a car service or rent a car for the day. You do have to pay for parking, but it's a vacation. If you want, pm me with your starting point, and I'll check out some car service prices for you. Judy |
