Omg My Son Had A Rock In His Ear !! 3 Attachment(s) Well last night around 8 pm my 7 yr old son came downstairs and said mom do you remeber when i told you i put a rock in my ear?? i of course thought he was just trying to stay out of bed ( he makes excuses to get out of bed often) i told him just go to bed and go to sleep well about 5 min later i heard him in the bathroom in the cubbord and he come out with a Q-tip i tell him come hear and let me see assuming i would find nothing. so i get a flash light and to my surprise there looked like there was something in there so i took a pair of tweezers and it was infact hard i couldn't reach it and it looked as if it had fallen down a little more so off to the hospital we went! On my way to the hospital i recalled a conversation with my son maybe a month ago that he had asked me " mom what would happen if i put a rock in my ear and i told him he would be in trouble so i asked if he did and he told me no." i let it go so now i was freaking out i knew there was a rock in there  . we get to the doctors and she looks in his ear with the black thing and she goes he has ear wax we need to flush it out so when she walked out i looked again and she had pushed the rock all the way down in his ear canal becase she thought it was wax. So they do an irrigation by pushing water in his ear an while he is screaming and after about 5 times she say oh here comes some big wax. it got stuck so she got a scrapper and we heard for sure it was a rock it was scraping it was so gross to hear finally we got it out and it was a rock OMG the doctor comes in and say yep it ear wax ( i almost smacked her) we said no it is a rock she looks at it again wow it is a rock it is the same color as wax:mad:  stupid doctor i swear she could have really made it bad if we couldn't have got it out because she pushed it in so far.. :thumbdown well the rock is about 1/4 inch wide almost 1/2 inches long and just under 1/4 inches thick geeze!!! i have included some pics they sent it home with me in a specimin jar hahahaha. it had to be in there for a while thank goodness there was no infection or damage i feel so dumb but geeze you think he would've said something before this lol. |
Lucky you that the ER "dr" didn't burst an eardrum. Sometimes I just hate having to go to the ER and deal with all the "Doogie Housers". I'm glad your little guy is ok. Patty |

Oh boys will be boys! My oldest was a rock collector never put one in his ear but he did keep them in pockets!! |
I've heard of rocks in your head but in the ears..... have you noticed lately he was ignoring you ;) ... Glad his ears are ok, could have worse... My niece ( about 8) put something up her nose & it was there so long it stunk when it came out, I think it was a piece of cotton...EEEWWW! |
OMG sorry for laughing but that's funny - and could have been serious....I was going to say at least it wasn't his nose but see that's been done - numerous times LOL - Boys will be boys is right. Tell him next time try a frog - they can at least jump back out |
So glad he'll be okay Amber. Boys...what are we gonna do with 'em?...LOL |
Ha Ha. My GD did that. She actually put it in her ear during nap time at school so when wouldn't lose it. She called it her pet rock. I am sure the ER sees it often, I am not sure why the doc couldn't tell what it was. |
I am glad that the rock came out!!!! That must have felt awfully funny in there. Kids do the craziest stuff....!!! Once my Mom took my little brother to the doctor because he put a pussywillow up his nose!!!   Once it got there it got bigger!!! The doctor had to extract it!!! |
Well you handled it alot better than I would have!! I would have freaked out on everyone!! I am glad your son is ok and I hope he doesn't do it again! My son puts rocks up his nose!! |
I worked at a pediatrician's office and you would be amazed at what we pulled out of ears and noses! The strangest one was a large red ant that we had to drown in solution and then pull out in sections! I think little rocks were the most common - don't ask me what it is about boys and rocks - LOL! I'm glad your little one is okay:) |
I'm glad the Dr. got it out safely. It could have been much worse to remove. I'm happy your son is okay. |
Boys! Always getting into something or other aren't they? If they only understood what they put their mother's through.:( Amber I am glad no damage was done to his ear. I am sure he learned his lesson on this one. Don't forget to post this episode in his "Baby Book". I kept track of all these things with my kids. My only son has a page in his book that I changed from fun things to do to "Accidents" and filled it up and added a page:p |
i have read the post OUTLOUD to my 7 year old. and the ones about other items. i did mention your boy was "screaming!" he says he will not put things i his ears or nose. glad it came out. he probably didn't tell you b/c you said, "you'd be in trouble." |
So glad that turned out okay! My daughter had a rock in her ear when she was about 3 or so. Some kid on the playground had thrown some gravel at her and one little bitty one went in her ear. We didn't know about it though until it started hurting really bad. My little cousin actually put a cotton ball up his nose when he was little. My aunt tells us that it was there for weeks and weeks before she starting noticing that he had this nasty odor and she couldn't figure it out. It smelled like he just had really bad breath so she took him to the dentist who discovered the cotton ball when he couldn't actually find anything wrong with his teeth or mouth. She said that thing was nasty when it was taken out! Yep, boys will be boys! ;) |
