GOOD LUCK! :D |
Wear a nice dress or a suit. BE VERY POSITIVE. And just try to relax. Hope it goes well for you. Make sure you post an update. GOOD LUCK!:) |
Oh yeah and should i just show up and say i wanted to see if they are hiring or what ??? |
Ah, I'm seeing now you don't HAVE the interview yet. You say your friend has talked to the boss... I would dress nice but not so formally then, stop by and ask to see the boss. Introduce yourself. Tell the boss "My friend XXXX may have mentioned to you that I am very interested in working for you. I thought I would come by and introduce myself." She/He will probably tell you then whether or not they are actually looking for anyone. Be polite and gracious in either case and be sure to thank them for their time! |
Congrats and good luck with the job hunting!!!!! My daughter will be 17 in July and she has been job hunting also. She has had 2 summer jobs already but she is itching for some money lol |
Good luck to you. My 16 year old son is trying to find a job also. He just got a cast off his arm (broken wrist) so he is wanting to find something too. |
I've been working since I was 14, so it seems like its been forever since my first job...but in this situation, I would make sure you dress professionally, but not too dressed up, because in a daycare situation, the owner will need to be able to see that if your clothes get thrown up on, peed on, etc, they won't be ruined. |

My daughter is also 17 and just finished a course in early childhood development, she is looking for daycare work, but here you have to be 18:( so now she looking else where untill then, im sure you will do fine, make sure you tell her you love working with children and you experince in babysittg.she also took a cpr course so that might help you to:) best of luck to you;) |
any other tips?? |
noone!!!???!!! |
I have a 2nd job substituting at a day care (infant through preschool) When I went in for my interview I wore jeans and a regular plain colored shirt, and sneakers of course! I think they are interested in seeing the 'real' you. Just be yourself, smile a lot, and let the director at the center know you are really interested in the job. Don't wear low-cut or v-neck shirts and make sure when you bend down that your back doesn't show. I know that is a major issue with the way they make jeans these days. Always wear sneakers. I know at my center they frown upon flip flops or sandals that may make you trip. And you can imagine how terrible that would be if you were holding a baby! You will do fine. Make sure you mention all of your experience with children. Let us know how it goes! |
I work in HR at a hospital. I don't like to see body piercings (except for ears). Wear slacks and a nice top. No freaky colored hair. Go to the daycare and say you were in the area and stopped by to introduce yourself and fill out an application. Tell them of your experience in babysitting and most of all --- smile!!! |
I worked at a daycare for 3 years. Now I currently work at a Montessori School. It is great, and the children are so amazing! I love your enthusiasm, and wish you the best of luck! |
Thx ... Bumpp |
Update! Well i just got back! The owner wasnt there so i filled out an application and left it on her desk! I wish i could have talked to her i would have a better chance! I really hope that i get it! I put on the application when it said referred by i put my friends name so hopefully that'll help! idk i was so nervous lol i just want her to call! ahh! |
Good luck!! |
anyone know how long i should wait for a call before i know i definately wont get it???? |
I would wait a couple days and give them a call back and ask for the boss. I would then tell her your name and you were checking on the status of your application. I have worked in a couple of daycares and that is what I did. The first daycare I worked at I was interviewed the same time as another lady. I just acted myself and I didn't dress up very much. I wore nice pants and a nice top. Nothing fancy. I took an actual Early Childhood Education class in high school for college credit so I did learn a lot from that. Just if you have any tatoos or piercings (except the ears) I'd cover them. I had my belly button pierced but they didn't know. Mostly I wore t-shirts and jeans to work and in the winter hoodies. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. I know it can make you nervous and excited all at the same time. :D |

Omg i went to the store and forgot my fone well when i got back i had a missed call and i looked up the number and saw it was from the daycare!!! Well i called back and stuff and she said she wanted to have an interview with me today!!! She asked me what time and i was like whenever is good for you so it is at 1:30!!! i am so nervous and excited! I really started to think i had no chance!! Any tips????? |
Hey, that's great! That IS the first step, and a very important hurdle. Learn this: networking is good. Your friends can help you. (Someday, when you're in a position to do so, pay it forward.:) Just follow the advice in some of the original posts. Dress nice. Be positive. Try to relax. (It's tough, but appearing confident is a plus.) Oh here's a good one: Unless she hires you on the spot, write a quick thank-you note as soon as you get home. Those follow-ups show that you are more than polite -- and they put your name back at the top of their minds.:p GOOD LUCK!:) |
i'm excited for you! what a fun first "real" job. you're already a pro with your experience babysitting for another child (long term even!). if you have certifications, bring copies of those (cpr card, red cross, etc). and from what i've seen in most day care centers, there is a dress code. (currently my son's crew wear khaki pants and red tops). you don't want to overdress in this situation, but i don't recommend jeans for any interview. good luck and success! |
