smoking ??? for those who have posted about not smoking........... who is still smoke free? I dont' know how long it has been .... but I am still smoke free. I will tell you tho........ if the doc would tell me tomorrow that I had only months to live.............the first thing I would do would be to light one up! |
I know what you mean  is it not horrible ? Wished there was such a thing as a miracle pill ! |
I have not posted about this until now, but on 9/15/07 I will be two years quit. I can tell you that it does get easier with time. Stay true to yourself, do anything you need to do...Just don't smoke even one puff! |
im sorry to say that im back to smoking,, did the chantix thing and it does work, but i would go home from a bad day at work and have a drink and light up. i was only doing that on weekends and then,, well you know... one day went into 2 days and thennnn well ya know. sooooooooo im back to it. im a big jerk |

i have a cocktail or two on the weekends and i cant drink without one.. i will do it again soon... i have to |
I quit in November, and started back a few weeks ago:o *sigh* I'm a moron! |
Like Gina, I tried the Chantix pills. They work, but I was so sick in my stomach all the time. I tried to keep taking them but had to stop. I would wake up in the middle of the night oozy and just couldn't take it any longer. I am trying not to smoke unless I feel it's absolutely necessary, but it's just so hard. I wish I could stop completely! |
I smoked for YEARS. I think I started in the 10th grade?!!! Well I went cold turkey 3 years ago and stuck to it and have been smoke free since. I sometimes still crave them. Now I eat  |
Yeah, I'm a big loser - am smoking again. Waah!! Jackie |
It has been a little over 3 years that I went cold turkey. Not a day goes by I don't think about lighting up. |

I smoke.. tried quitting onc by eating mandrin oranges (the fresh ones).. but well.. it's only worked for a few months until I was so bloated I couldn't take it:rolleyes: |
For those of you who want to try again, please do. Just enter into it knowing and promising yourself that you will never ever have just one puff. You are one puff away from a pack a day. You can beat that demon inside of you. I suggest you try an online support group. I succeeded with http://www.stopsmokingcenter.net. It is a great bunch of people. Even if you don't join the chat, you will find lots and lots of help. |
5 weeks this tomorrow!!!!!!!! :D |
Congrats Denise! How are the babies>? |
Glad to hear some of you have still not picked one up. those of you that have .....I do understand. I have found that if I keep busy I am less likely to go to the neighbors to borrow one. My neighbor is quiting too. he has been a month and she has been one day. we will try to support each other. I kept one cigarette in my purse for about a month and half. I guess I figured if the temptation was there and I passed it up..... I can beat it. cindy ... with bob and I both off smokes..........well ....lets just say it hasn't been very pleasant around here. ;) babies are good. Buckeye had a grass burr stock in his beard and I didn't know it. when I went to wash his face I found where he had rubbed it hard just below his eye. he had a wound there. neosporin fixed him right up. all else is good. |

I know this is an older thread, but I bought the Chantix and it didn't work for me. I went back to the gum which worked before and I've now been almost a week without a smoke. Anyway, I have almost a full prescription of the Chantix if anyone is interested in it. |
It's wonderful for those that have beat this habit...for those who are struggling, don't give up the rewards are to important to not do this...hang in there.. I found an instant way to kick the habit...I got pregnant....stopped cold turkey.. never went back...never regretted it...now I have to figure out how to stop getting preg.... |
I'm coming up on two years smoke free (quit 8/29/05) :cheer: :cheer: Smoked for over 30+ years   For those who are tying to quit, or just recently quit, just remember to keep a positive attitude and N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) Wishing you all the best of luck !!!! |
It had been almost 40 years since I had started to smoke. every day is a battle. every hour! quitting only twice. once for my first pregnancy and once just because. went back the last time because I was taking care of my mother with alzheimers. (that time would have made a non smoker start!) stick with me people!!! lets stay smoke free!!! |
I gave up about 14 months ago....but i have in that time buckled and had a cigarette while out drinking with friends...that is when i find it hard...smoking and achohol go hand in hand in my eyes..I am doing better now though.and have been out a few times recently and not wanted to smoke, so perhaps i'm getting over it!:) |

i really need to quit...uggggg |
I am in the process of quiting now. I cut way back and the beginning of August I am going to quit completely. I tried to quit cold turkey and couldnt do it. I am going to use the patches |

I had my first beer last night since quitting and it did not taste the same - at all. The cigs really do make the beer!!! Guess I'll have to find something else to drink so I won't be tempted:D |

I read an article years ago in Reader's Digest about how much more difficult it is for women to quit than men (I think it had something to do with percentage of body fat). Anyway, the article suggested that women use the patch AND the gum at the same time. I talked to my Dr. about it and she agreed. So, if you're a real heavy smoker, or the pat doesn't seem to be taking the edge off, try adding a pice of gum here and there. It's been one week today for me. This is only the second time in 34 years I've quit. The first time, I only lasted 3 months. This time, I didn't really plan it. I joined a gym and it seemed so oxymoronic for me to be working out and smoking, so I took the plunge. Between the two, I feel really great and wish I'd done this ages ago. Good luck to you! |
Congratulations to those of you that have kicked the habit and lots of good wishes to those who are still fighting the battle. I've never smoked but since I can't seem to quit eating, I have all the sympathy in the world for those with other addictions. Just keep on keeping on, we'll get there if we don't give up. |
even before I quit. I have always hated to see anyone smoking while they were walking down the street. It, to me, just looks trashy. and.... I hate seeing anyone holding a baby and smoking. I think it is rude to smoke while you are in a group of people. (even if they are all smokers.) their smoke going my way is not nice. now that I am a non smoker, I really really want one but what holds me back (today) is the sight of one is disgusting (today). if you smoke in your house and you think you have a clean house........... you do not. for today what is working is by hating all smokers that I see. :confuse2: |
