ABC-TV horror story! Did anyone else watch ABC-TV this morning on their morning show? They had a segment on the dogs in St. Bernard Parrish in Louisana that had been "abandoned" by the owners when they were forcibly removed during the hurricane... one woman had her poodle taken away from her and shot! She was threated with being arrested if she did not give the dog to the "police" to be destroyed...there were many others this happened to and they are filing class action suit against this police dept. I can't imagine having my babies ripped out of my arms and shot in front of me.... roxanne |
Oh my................thats terrible. Why must the world be so cruel! |
website ABC  abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3265151&page=1 the story is called....Lawsuit: katrina pets executed roxanne in nc |
OMG I just read the story on the ABC News site ... I am so mad I can't think straight. I am at lunch and I can't eat now. My mom and I have said repeatedly there is no way we'd leave without the crew and made plans for transporting each. Just point a gun at me and threaten my furry guys ... I have guns, too.:D |
 So terrible! I do not know what I would do under gun point. I refused to go without my German Shepherd and cat when I had to move to USA. But it's not the same in case of emergency. It's so heartbreaking. And killing these innocent babies instead of helping them. What a mess... I'm crying... |
That is heartbreaking! I can't imagine the pain of making such a decision to leave Paris & Paris behind. This story makes me sick. |
That is terrible! Those cops would obtain injury before Bella I can tell you that right now! And if anybody laid a finger on me I would file a suit for POLICE BRUTALITY so fast theirs heads would spin from all the bad press. I have connections! Besids my hunny is in the Military can we say out ranked! Local Cops and troopers usually don't have a say when it comes to Martial law like with Kartina. I doubt the UCMJ would have a problem with him defending his Wife! :D |
I wish I didn't watch that story... I'm in tears now... with my little Carson on my lap. I can't imagine the heartlessness... "they did it because of humane reasons...not enough food?" Oh my gosh... are we not in America? These were beloved pets, not strays.... I'll be praying for all those poor grieving families, and for justice.... deb |
A Happy Note to this tragic story... I did NOT go and look at the story...I knew I did not want to see it just from your descriptions. On a better note though, my daughter lives in Oxford, MS. Her vet from there ran a "pet caravan" right after Katrina. I did not even have dogs then and it warmed my heart. Several area vets and locals formed a caravan of trucks, cars, suvs, and minivans stocked with donated crates and food and headed south. They brought back as many pets as they could (several trips). Many of the locals in the Oxford area turned out to show support by helping with animal upkeep, walking, cleaning, etc. I am happy to say that almost all pets were placed back with their owners. The others are living high on the hog in Mississippi!!!!:animal36 |
This is a sad, sad, sad story! I am from Louisiana. I live about 70 miles away from St. Bernard Parish. This is so awful. I feel bad for those people who unwillingly left their pets behind and their pets. I heard almost two days prior to Katrina hitting Mayor Ray Nagin begging people to get out of town. He said specifically "The results of this storm will be catastrophic---we live in a soup bowl." I am sad to say that I too evacuated during Katrina and Rita and as I was leaving I saw many, many, many dogs tied up in backyards of homes or on the porch. When I returned home there were many dogs without a place to go, just wandering around. That is no reason to shot and kill them, its not the animals fault. I am glad to say that many local shelters, volunteers, and vet clinics took care of these abandoned pets and tried to place them back with their owners. LSU vet school had such a large turnout of animals (dogs, cats, birds, horses, snakes, etc.) that it was unbelievable. I just know that I would never leave without my puppy. I am so saddened that this actually happened in our day and age. Although I will try not to focus on the negatives, but pray that people will plan more for the next storm. I also hope that these deputies pay any and all consequences for their actions. |
That makes me so mad! I would have told them to take me to jail! |
