Frustrated with breeders! Hi everyone, we've been searching for a female pekingese. I am getting beyond frustrated with these breeders. I have sent emails to so many people and not one has actually answered any questions that I asked. I'm starting to think I coming off too pushy or something. I don't know and I'm just confused why no'one is answering my questions. Is it really wrong to ask for recent pictures, parent's pictures, personality type, current age, and health?? That's about all that I ask for at first and if I could get those answers then I would definately want to speak with the breeder on the phone and also talk to them about health guarantee's and some other things that I definately find important. Is this wrong of me? Out of probably 35 replies back they simply say the dog is still available and tell me the price and thats it. :thumbdown I'm just frustrated and wondered if anyone could give me any advice on what I should being asking. I honestly don't think my questions are wrong though but maybe they are. Thanks for listening to me. :) |
Well I'm not a breeder, but I think you're asking very ligitimate questions! They are the same questions I asked when looking for Gemma, and you know what? I got just as frustrated at the vague replies or no replies!! Whats up with that?? My opinion is you will eventually find a good one, who will take the time to answer your questions and will be thrilled to know someone like you that knows what to ask and what to look for, is inquiring about their dogs! Funny, the breeder I got Gemma from didn't give me a good email vibe, but I went against that vibe and met with her and you know....I'm still not happy with her communication so I wish I'd have stuck to my gut :( The one lady that emailed alot and we talked on the phone is the best and I should have went with her - we are still friends now and talk on the phone all the time! Are you including your phone number in emails so they may call you if typing all those answers is too time consuming for them?? Thats the only thing I can suggest you do...but don't change what you are asking, I think you're right. Good luck in your search and be patient-you will find the right breeder and it will be worth it ;) |

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. Thank you for the nice words and I never thought about giving my phone number in the emails. This is definately a good idea. I hope it helps. I have offered to call them but the only thing that everyone seems concerned about is $$$ ERRRRRRRRR :thumbdown I'm sorry about Gemma's breeder but I will say she is so adorable ;) I think all your babies are :D Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Thought I'd add a pic of what I'm looking for. ;) I just love their little pushed in faces, LOL :p |

You know I wanted to add, one breeder I found, I did not mention I was local....just asked some questions and I guess I had got a feeling that her add wasnt truthful. So after she replied I bombed on her that I was local and would LOVE to come see the parents, etc...and I never heard from her again! My next searches, I did the same thing because I felt if they had something to hide, they were more likely to want to ship their puppies to avoid someone coming to see for themselves. I was actually HAPPY to find those few breeders who said "I require going to your house to interview you...!" Shows they really cared. Thanks for the compliments, BTW :D |
I think that it was yorkierose that said something once to the effect that maybe the breeders don't have enough time to answer e-mails...especially those that show. If I'm really interested in something, I'll call on the phone. Many people do have busy lives and can't answer each and every e-mail that comes through...especially if they are successful and reputable breeders. just a thought. |

Hi, I would love to find a local breeder but I don't see that happening. These little guys are kinda hard to find, so shipping will probably be my only option. I've been wanting a little female peke for so long now and I almost feel like giving up. Perhaps she'll find me someday. It's sad because I came across a rescue one a few months back and I fell in love with her. I sent so many emails and called but never heard anything back. :( I just adore this breed. As for those noses, LOL! I actually do have one peke now and his name is Snoot. He's 12 years old and I never had to clean his nose with a q-tip but perhaps I've been extremely lucky. :p I hope I find a good breeder soon. I'm definately going to start including that I would like to see the dogs in person. This is definately a good way to weed out the bad breeders. Thanks for mentioning it. ;) |

Oh Dina I am so sorry to hear about your frustrations on searching for that perfect new addition :( Hope someone will contact you soon :animal-pa |
Oh girl, this just sucks :( Some breeders just don't seem to want to answer our very important (and REASONABLE!) questions - and it is so frustrating! BUT - on the other hand, those breeders only provide an e-mail and no phone number, and don't answer your questions when you ask them - only mention a price, are probably not the best breeders to begin with  They are obviously only interested in one thing - selling the dog and making money :thumbdown A reputable breeder simply wouldn't do this. They would take the time to answer your very important questions to show you that they CARE about their dogs, know what is actually going on with them, and take care of them. They would give you more info than just the price  :thumbdown Good luck in your search girl and I KNOW that you are going to keep me updated AREN'T YOU!! ;) LOL :p :p :p |
Hi, I had Pekes for many years before we got our Yorkie. I LOVE them! We plan on getting one in the next few months ourselves! I have lost touch with most of the breeders I knew back then, most don't breed anymore anyway, but I might be able to give you a little insight! First, are you getting your breeders from the AKC breeders site/The Pekingese Club Of America or just random Internet sites? I am NOT saying ALL AKC breeders are sterling but you have a bit more protection that way. It sounds as if the breeders who HAVE written back are simply trying to make a sale-that would be a huge red flag to me. Peke breeders tend to be overly protective of thir females-it is dangerous for Pekes to whelp and so many breeders won't place them with someone they do not know. It is MUCH easier to find a male. When you E-mail do you give some personal details? That you already own a Peke? That really helps. Say a bit about what food you feed and how you care for dogs. Offer vet and other references. Some breeders get dozens of e-mails and sometimes delete those who don't seem to be serious or don't put in a little info about them. Also, do you have children? Some Peke breeders are adamant about not letting their Pekes go to home with children due to their eyes being so delicate. Don't be afraid of show breeders...many will NOT sell you a dog, especially a female but they will steer you to a reputable breeder. In fact if you can find a dog show to go to and meet the breeders: that is a great way to make connections...just remember to approach the breeder after they have shown not before. I think Wendessa Pekes is in Maryland. They won Westminster in 1990 but I don't know anything about them personally-I was on the West Coast when I was in Pekes. Still, might be a good place to start! Best wishes in finding your little sweetie! |

Hi, thank you for your help. Most of the breeders that I've come across are random. Very few have been from the AKC site or the other one that you mentioned. I have enclosed personal information about myself in my messages and have even sent a picture of my other pekingese when I was able too. I have absolutely nothing against male pekes (I do have one :D ) but I really have my heart set on a female. I've even told the breeders that I have no intentions on breeding and would sign a contract saying so. I simply want a healthy little girl to love. I don't have children yet, so I hope this helps when I do find a baby girl available. I wish you all the luck when searching for your baby. I simply adore this breed, they truly are one of a kind. I 'm going to check out the place you mentioned. Thank you again for your help. I truly appreciate you taking the time to write all that. :) |
You are welcome, of course! Sweet of you to mention it! I have PM'd you! |
