Can anyone recommend a good gps system Well guys we went to circuit city yesterday to look at navigation systems for my car. We are going on vacation in July then as long as my hubbys md gives his blessing will begin our traveling nursing sometime in August. So we thought this would be a good idea. They had one advertised in the paper for 199. I thought that wasn't too bad. UNTIL I tried to work it. Takes way too long and was hard to understand. I fell in love with the garmin. Took about 10 seconds to put in where I wanted to go and very very easy to use. So I think that is the one that we are going to get. cost a bit more than what i wanted to pay but i think it is worth it. Hubby and I had a day out yesterday. He went to the mall with me to get my Moms birthday present, went out for lunch and to circuit city and walmart. It was so so nice to get out together. He doesnt do that much but has been feeling pretty good lately. Anyway would love to hear from anyone who has a gps and what kind they have and pros and cons. |

That is what I think too. Especially with something that will get used alot. I am very directionally challenged. Loved the idea that while I am driving I can find the nearest gas station, restaurant or hotel at the touch of a button. Hubby was really impressed. They go off sale Saturday so hopefully will get one this week. |
I always look things up in Consumer Reports mag. because they check things out....of the top three GPS systems they do recommend the "Garmin Nuvi 300" for $500...they said it has a super easy touch screen & for $50 more the nuvi 360 has Bluetooth hands-free cell phone control. To make a call, dial on screen numbers, to answer a call, tap the screen & speak through a microphone. The other two they recommend are "Tom Tom One" for their bargain buy at $300 & the other one is "Tom Tom go 510" for $400. Hope one works foe you :) |
I have not used a car/map GPS but have used Garmin on the boat and in the car (just my handheld) for almost 20 yrs. It's the most userfriendly that I've found. I just bought another one. We use them for Geocache trips, bike rides, out on the lake (it's great to know where the ports are in the fog). |
That reminded me of something...the other day my daughter told me her BF ALWAYS uses his GPS to get around town but the other day he didn't use it & he got lost, I guess you could say he's a little to dependent on  |

Garmin is awesome :) |
I got my hubby a tomtom 910 for xmas. I am not to sure if its the best. He wanted that one and he is not the kind of person who wants cheaply made things. Its was like 500 or 600. Its not hard to use, scent I am able to use it :p My hubby even had a few coworkers go out and get the same one.. so I think its a good one. |

I am sure that they do. Just never got that far while playing with the other ones. My husband was still putting in the street address of where we wanted to go and I was done with everything with the garmin. Just alot faster. |
I have a garmin and I love it. It works really good. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it. |
I don't know much about these at all. Do you just buy the system and you're done or do you pay a monthly fee? How is it updated? Could someone tell me a little more about this? |
Well guys we went today and bought our new Garmin. The salesman was so nice and explained everything to us and helped up pick out exactly what we needed, and nothing more. We got in going in just a few seconds and actually have already tried it out once. I am so excited at the prospect of not ever getting lost again. It will be wonderful on our vacation next month to virginia. And really nice when we start the traveling nurse thing. Yep, my hubby's md gave us the go ahead today and said that he really thought it would be good for my husband. He is going to fix us up a packet to take with us that explains all of my husbands health problems and medications along with his phone numbers so that he can be reached for any questions if my husband requires medical attention while we are gone. We are thinking of either western massachutes, new hampshire or west virginia as our first assignment. I am just waiting on some answers from my recruiter before I make my final decision. |
