24 years old and I have strept throat?! OK... So when I was little I always ALWAYS had strept throat. Really sore throat and fever sometimes near 104. So the last few weeks I had a little sore throat and horrible cold symptoms...you usually do not have cold symptoms with strept throat so I attributed it to a cold. Three weeks later, still here, feeling miserable, I hate going to doctors but I sucked it up. He was able to determine I had a bad sinus infection, hence the cold symptoms, then looked in my throat and told me I needed a test. Get the swab test and ten minutes later a nurse comes in with a shot says right away "ok, bend over" I ask why, and she tells me I have strept throat   Now I used to get the amoxil or z-pack when I had it when I was little and be on my way...not this time. It was advanced and coating everything in my mouth and throat and needed a shot...right smack in the butt   And what really stinks is that I could've gone in on Wednesday and had Thursday off, but no....I go in after work on Friday and SATURDAY is my SICK DAY  here I am 48 hours later with strept throat and a sinus infection, on three different meds...still with a sore throat, still exhausted, and feeling all around crappy...and I get to go to work tomorrow for six hours and chase kids because I used up all my sick days from my car accident  I always thought strept throat was a little kid's disease...guess when you work in a daycare you get to relive your childhood again (well illness wise lol) haha just another rant from me  |
Sorry you are sick. My sister just had it last week and she is 56 years old. SHe is a kindergarten teacher. Hope you feel better soon. |
So sorry you are sick. A friend of my family got it when she was in her 70's. You never outgrow the opportunity to get an infection, darn it. Take care! |
you are not alone, both me nand my daughter had it 2 wks ago, first her then me, and ya it really makes you sick i felt like i had the flu with it also. i guess z-pac is what everyone is taking for it.i hope you feel better soon:) it took me about 3 days to sart feeling better:( |
I hope you get better soon! I had it a few years ago when I worked at an elementary school - I am in my 30's. I had 106 fever (yes) and the doctor couldn't believe I was able to drive in and do anything for that matter. I was MISERABLE!!! I had never felt so bad. It was going around the school and I knew the moment I had it, I could just tell...the pain in my throat was horrible. I can't remember what I was given, but it seemed to take FOREVER to get rid of it...which I am sure it didn't, it just felt that way. I remember staying in bed for about a week!! YUCK!!! |
Strep throat is definitely not a little kid illness. You can get it ANY time at ANY age. You're lucky you got the shot, it takes like 24 hours to feel better, SO fast! When untreated strep infections can go to your heart and can be fatal. No joke. Luckily, you're now protected by the shot. I've had it TONS and always ask for the shot because it's quicker. Get well soon :) |
That stinks! Im sorry you are so sick! Ive never had strep, when my brothers would get it, my mom would take us all to the doctors at once, and we'd all test positive, but I never had symptoms. They found out I was a carrier of it, so I couldnt get it, immunity! Im so glad that I was not able to get it. But Ive had my share of other crappy things, like 8 months of conjunctivitis, and over a year of ear infections!! Yah, ear infections at age 25!! They found out after 8 months that it was full blown swimmers ear, which is incurable and acts up just randomly leaving me with a trip to the ER bc of the pain! Now I need to wear ear plugs all the time, and earmuffs or a hat in the winter all the time! Anyways.... enough of my tangent! I hope you get well quickly! Does not sound like its been a fun year for you! Hang in there, baby yourself tonight at least! |
