vacation suggestions We are trying to figure out where to take the kids for vacation this year. We were looking to rent a condo or house on the beach in california (orange county) or even florida. No luck so far :( . Any suggestions I figure with so many people living in different states you could offer some info as to nice vacation spots. Kids range in age as follows 11,4,2 1/2, and 1. |
Have you tried the Gulf Shores, Alabama, area? There are some large, nice beach houses there for rent. Some have their own pools, and a few of them are pet friendly. www.meyerre.com is where I always start looking. Good luck! |
Gulf Shores is a great place! Its been a few years since we've been but is a favorite gulf coast beach area!! |
thanks for that i just checked that link. That sounds exactly like what im looking for. Just a week by the beach relaxing with the kids!!! how are the beaches over there and are there lots of things to do!!! |
Orlando is neat for the kids if they like the theme parks. :) |
:D Thanks fe. We have been to orlando 3x's already so i was looking for something less theme parkish and more beachy and shopping. |
Gulf Shores is very family friendly. West Beach is mostly houses and is a little quieter. East Beach is busier, more condos and traffic, but still family friendly. There's lots for families to do outside of beach time. There's a great water park called Waterville. There's a fun park called The Track. Lots of great places to eat, places to shop. I can give you some names of great restaurants if you're interested. We're heading there next week, to the Fort Morgan area, to stay at the Beach Club. Can't wait!! |
The beaches are usually very clean with white sand and blue-green water. Maybe others can chime in to tell you about local attactions since its been a while since I've been there. Lisa |
As much as I love the beaches of Gulf Shores, you can travel a little further west to Destin (or any part of the Florida panhandle.) The Beaches there are a little whiter, the water a little clearer. Some beaches in Destin can be compared to more tropical beaches like Jamaica or Bahamas. They are that pretty! I'm not sure how pet friendly Destin is. It's more crowded than Gulf Shores, which is why we go to GS when we take the kids and travel with other families. |
How is the recovery efforts going on the panhandle area? On the New Orleans news a few weeks ago, they were showing that some areas are still as devastated as they were after Hurricane Ivan plowed through the area. If I'm not mistaken (and I might be), Gulf Shores didn't take a hit like the panhandle did. My husband's offshore platform that he works on took the eye of the storm. It was completed devastated. Within the last month, the platform has finally resumed operations. His platform is south of Mobile Bay area. Lisa |
