Well.... I ran to the store today with Mr. Sammy Sam as I always do and there was a girl (around 20) with a lil Yorkie outside....So being the nice person I am and looking for other locals with Yorkies.... I introduce myself and what are the first words out of her mouth.....

"HE IS HUGE - obviously you didnt get a teacup"

Me breathing before I speak - "You are obviously correct since there is NO such thing as a teacup"

Her - "Mine is- she is 12wks old and is a teacup. I cant believe how BIG he is"

Me- "He doesnt even weigh 5lbs -- when did you get your Yorkie" -- I am really trying to still be nice at this point...

Her - "I got her about 2 wks ago ... GOSH, he is just sooo big. And why does his ears stick up like that?? Im so glad I got a lil baby"

Ok so finally I had it.... and this is me....

"Listen, sweetie pie, if you got your baby at 8 wks sounds to me like the breeder didnt know what he or she was doing lettin a lil one go that young AND for your information, again, there is NO such thing as a teacup - look it up- a Yorkie is a Yorkie regardless of the size and by the way, the standard is 7lbs.... AND just so you know.... their EARS are supposed to stand up that way. I think before you do anything else with your dog, you may want to do some reading...." then I turned around and walked off..... and i dont know if its ok to let the babies go at 8wks or not, at that point, I was just mouthin to be mouthin :rolleyes:

My mom was with me and she reminded me that if I didnt have anything nice to say that I shouldnt say anything at all...lol... but geesh.... I wanted to knock her out!!! If you coulda just seen the way she was saying OMG HE IS SO BIG -- it like that song - OMG BECKY LOOK AT HER BUTT IT IS SOO BIG -- ugh I wanted to slap her...

Congrats on your calm nature. I cant even imagine if anyone insulted my baby!!!! I have had someone insult my son and I almost lost it. I know I wouldnt be as quick to react with my Yorkie but I think it would be pretty close. People just like to make themselves more important by insulting (or "having an observation") other people.. Your yorkie is beautiful..

I'm surprised you waited so long to tell her off. I think I would have let her have it after "he's huge, and mine is a teacup."

My comment would have been something like, "Honey you'd better do your homework, because it is obvious that you know nothing about yorkies."

Thats really crazy. She is obviously not educated about yorkies. I had this woman came up to me in petsmart telling me that Dior was huge. She is 6lbs. I simply walk away.

Ohhhh-that just "frosts my bippies"!!! I think you handled that QUITE well.

I about went OFF on someone this weekend for calling my 6 lb little Emma "big"-this lady and her pudgy daughter were each holding what they claimed to be yorkies, and gawking at Emma! The dogs were the size of guinea pigs-no exaggerating on this one, they had were NO larger than 1.5 lbs (they made 3 lb Milli look like a GIANT). And, they had horrific looking scraggly hair that needed to be brushed and trimmed, and these awful, gappy, pointy teeth.

I told them that Emma was standard sized, and Milli was on the smaller side, but they didn't believe it, and started ARGUING with me about the size of a standard yorkie, and boasted theirs were "teacups". I briefly went into the fact that there is no such thing as a teacup-but was shot down, and didn't feel like arguing. What I wanted to say was, "at least my dogs are CARED for, and are properly FED and GROOMED!"

Ugh, the nerve!

I hope you covered his ears so he didn't have to hear these accusations!

I know... she must be crazy or something....

And to be talked about on his 6 month birthday... ugh, the nerve... luckily, his mommy always tells him he is PERFECT so I dont think it bothered him much :p

She sounds very ignorant!! Who doesnt know a yorkies ears are supposed to stand?? And she obviously didnt do any homework before buying a puppy...just wanted a pocket pooch..

Wow! I can't believe that! I am always shocked by what people think they're entiltled to say to others. Someone obviously didn't teach them their manners!

Good for you!! Since she doesn't know their ears are supposed to stand I'm sure she would go in shock to know sometimes "teacups" grow to "teapots".

I can't believe the nerve of some people, being ignorant in the first place, then attacking your cute little Sammy.

Oh girl, I would have probably slapped her! :mad: What the heck is WRONG with people? There is not a SINGLE THING wrong with Sammy - he is PERFECT looking!! And who CARES what size her dang dog is :rolleyes: I get soooo SICK of people freaking out over size, it is seriously starting to make me ILL. Some people really need to get a life.

And if they are so concerned over SIZE...they don't need a Yorkie. Yorkie's come in all shapes and sizes and her baby could end up growing to be a bigger one - you never know. And then what? She won't love it anymore? :rolleyes: Just sad.

aye aye aye mija..you where very patient..I had some dumb old lady tell me that snuggles (14lbs) wasnt pure breed because she was horrendously big and that the standard yorkie was 7 lbs.:mad: Let me tell you how my husband dragged me out the store but not before i let her have it. ( im Puertorican , from the bronx, so you know what was coming). My sentence started like this: "Let me tell you something B####, Read a F###### book, yorkies come in all sizes, you know whats gonna be horrendous, your face when i slap the S### out of it". Carmelo(husband) was upset that i was cursing her out but then started laughing when everyone was looking at the lady like , "thats what you get". :exclaim:

People always comment on how tiny Chloe is & then ask where I got her so they can get a "teacup" too! UGH! Can't even tell you how many times I've lectured to people about there being no such thing as teacups & I've only had Chloe since March 22nd! LOL

After the no teacup lecture, they get my own lecture about having such a tiny "teacup" and worrying 24/7 that you're going to step on them or w/e.

I freakin' wish Chloe would make it to 3lbs (or 10 lol), but that will only be in my wildest dreams :rolleyes:

We all know our little Sammy Sam is PERFECT. Don't let anyone tell him/you otherwise.

With Giz being 11 pounds I go thru the same thing. When they ask and I say Yorkie, I get this look, like ok yeah right. Sometimes I just don't like people. Gizzard is my heart and anything someone else says about him just "purty much doesn't matter". :cool: I think your baby is beutiful.

a 5lb yorkie is not huge by any means shes crazy and will feel like a fool if her comes out to be like 10lbs plus obviously she knows squat about yorkies!

Plain and simple...IG-NOR-ANT ! First to be so negative and 2nd cause they don't know what the h*ll they're talking about.

I'm getting used to the "rude" ones. With Phoebi being 12 lbs. I get ALOT of comments.....and to date these are my favorite replies...

"there's more of her to love this way" and "I at least got double my money's worth"! Usually leaves them standing there with their mouth's open....
