This came in my house today!! 4 Attachment(s) My daughter took Mojo outside today (between the rain showers) and left the door open a little. We have tons of hummingbirds and lots of feeders for them. The little guy flew right in. I have held a hummingbird before, but it is still an amazing feeling to hold something so small. I grabbed my camera, but the pictures didn't turn out very well....due to excitement, lack of a free hand, etc. Ha! Course, he was let go soon afterwards....he flew right off into my crabapple tree and then came right back to eat from the feeder. (cute little guy)! (hee, hee) Enjoy! awwww she's adorable . . . |
So neat! I'm suprised it didn't injury itself. I think I heard somewhere they have really fragile necks. We've had them run into the glass door once or twice. :( |
Too cool! How did you catch him??? |
I've heard that too.....but we have had three come in before and I have got to hold them each time.....two came into our shop (which has those long florescent lights) and this was kept buzzing around our big windows trying to get out. Thankfully, all three of them never had any injuries and have flown off. Whew! It is the neatest feeling to hold something so tiny and so light....which of course, I am really "not" holding, but ever so lightly cuffing my hands together. I didn't get pictures of the first two I got to hold because I just wanted to let it go, but no one believes me when I say I got to hold one, so this time, since the camera was right there, I tried to get a few shots of it! I absolutely love birds........especially hummingbirds!!!! |
how sweet i have a nest outside in my rose tree at work and i went one day to examine and its a hummingbird nest how neat is that we see so many birds lay nests but never a hummingbird and i told my mom and she said to take a picture becuase i was crazy becuase its literally right by my door to work and i said nope but the poor bird runs and flys off each time the door opens but he flys to the fence and then once he sees you loeave he flys back to his nest i wonder how long till the egg atches? i would love to take a picture of it now and then when it hatches how sweet but i cant wait to see it grow up my hubs plays with squirrels at work he said that they do silly dances and stuff when ever they get food he said that the squirrel will dig and then lay his legs on the ground and drag them like a dog and stuff he said its the funniest thing i guess we just have to ake time to see it |
I love hummingbirds! We hung 5 feeders this year.....I just love to sit and watch them. Such beautiful creatures. |
i am so jealous. I can hang a hundred feeders and i can't get a one I have no idea what i am doing wrong |
I just bought a feeder today, I love humingbirds too. |
Last year, we had over 25 hummingbirds....I have seen about 15 this year, so far. They are mean to each other....we have several feeders scattered around and some will pick one as their own.....then they sit and wait....and if another bird comes to it, they dive at it! It is crazy! They are smart though, because one will come and take the heat for it from the "master" of the feeder and while those two of flying around "fighting", others will come in to drink! I guess I SHOULD get more feeders, but geez...... Oh, the Orioles like to drink from the hummingbird feeders too....they are the orange and black birds....their feeders look much like the hummingbird feeders, but are orange. Their nector is the same too. |
Amazing, Jenn. Wow, what beautiful little birds! |
ive got to see them around my garden few times already... they are sooo cute and beautiful! love them!:) |
Precious they are I have had them come down and hover over my shoulder and Jack has when he's sitting on the porch. We also have many feeders about and have seen couple dozen flying all about in the yard, when their feeders get empty they will come and hover at the window and many times as I am doing dishes I look up and there is one hovering looking in at me. So precious they are. Patti and Jack |
♥ Cool Hummingbird ♥ That's really cool, Jenn! How did you catch it? We have lots of hummingbirds here, too. They are so beautiful and tiny! |
WOW! Thats awesome! I dont see anyhumming birds at my house even though I put 2 feeders up. I mostly get cardinals, bluejays, finches and sparrows. I love birds! |
Awww!! How cute is that!!! :) I just love Hummingbirds!!! :D |
That is so cool! After we moved into our new house (out in the country), I immediately hung two hummingbird feeders. They are still hanging but I don't fill them because the birds drove our Aust. Shepherd absolutely batty!! She would freak herself out trying to catch them - of course she couldn't reach them but it didn't stop her from trying. This dang dog is the same one who loves to "play" with bees! They've not been so friendly back to her though!! ;) I've decided that maybe when she's a little older I'll try filling the feeders again to see if she'll just lay back and watch and not try to fly to get them. I love hummingbirds though. My mom has several feeders and it's so cool when they come buzz around your shoulders. |
Amazing pictures. :) I get to see humming birds when I wash the dishes, they really love that side of our house. There must be something there, that they really like. :D |
I love them they are so beautiful!! We had to take ours down we used to have a bazillion of them come to feed and one year the bigger one came and chased all the others away he came everyday and i loved it but he started getting more aggressive every year till he started attacking us when we were outside he would dive bomb us flying right past our faces. he would zoom up in the air in a U shape and them try to attack us. so we took the feeder down:( |
