would you??? my in-laws are wanting to fly my daughter up to see them. it would be a 1.5 hour flight, direct, and I am sure she would love to go and visit them, but she is only 6 years old. do you think I should let her do it? I don't know if she is too young???? I really think she would be ok...I know the flight attendants would be with her the whole time and make sure she is ok...but as her mom...I can't help but worry. they have told me that if I do not feel ok with her flying up, that they would pay for me to come with her. but am I being too "over-protective"?? and I really don't think I can get away for a week. i don't know...i'm really torn. |
Do you have any other kids you'd be leaving behind if you went? I mean if your really worried I don't see why you shouldn't go if you don't have anything you REALLY need to do at home. But either way I'm sure she'd be fine getting there. She might just miss her mommy while shes away:( |
in my opinion she is too young but thats just me! I would go with her if possible! |
Wow that would be a little scary, but if the flight attendents say they would watch her i say she would be fine, just dont know if i could do it |
My daughter is also 6 years old, and in my opinion 6 is too young to travel alone. I would be a nervous wreck the entire time she was on the flight. Good luck! |
No way. When flying, I always feel bad for the little kids (and they are usually much older than your daughter) who are flying alone. |
When my bf's niece went to DR to visit her grandparents her mom went with her and stayed there for a week then came back, the niece stayed there the whole summer then her grandparents brought her here. She is also 6 yrs old. I think it's too young to travel alone. When I was little I would go to PR all the time but with my older brother with me and the flight attendants would take care of us but my brother was always mature and never scared. |
yeah, i am thinking she is too young. that is my initial thought and I think I will stick with that :) I will just go up with her. could be fun for me too I guess :) |
I traveled alone from the time I was 12yrs old...It's a big difference between 6 and 12 though. I thought it was so much fun! Don't feel sorry for those kids :) I WAS one of those kids and I can tell you it was neat, especially if it's a direct flight. My parents were divorced, so I would travel to see my dad across the country. Had it not been for me traveling by plane, alone, I would not have gotten to see my dad nearly as often. |
I couldn't do it. My kids are 16/17 and the oldest will fly alone to see my folks for the first time this summer. (Mostly that was because of their choice mind you, they were scared to fly alone until recently. My youngest still is). I usually go with them, or my folks have been able to fly with them. One year I went with them there, came home alone and my dad flew with them home. (Washington to Texas). Maybe you guys could do something like that??? |

When my daughter was 6 she flew on a direct flight from Georgia to Michigan to visit her grandparents. That was almost 20 years ago and I was a bit nervous, but it worked out well. With that said, I would never ever allow a child to travel that young is this day and time. The world has changed so very much since my children were young. If it were me an adult would travel with her. |
I flew from California to Wisconsin on a direct flight when I was 9 years old. I also had my 6 year old sister with me. I was very responsible at a young age, but in my opinion, 6 is still too young. Plus, people really are creeps now. I'm 23 and I always get nervous when I have to fly alone... |
I could not do it - My oldest is 17 and I don't even want her flying alone. I say if you can go too - go - If not - they can always come visit you. |
We let my 10 year old fy to Florida to visit her Grandparents but my 10 year old niece went. They had a blast, but the flight was dlayed on the way home and they had to sit on the plane for 2 hours during a thunderstorm. She was a little scared but a real nice businesswomen was in their row and showed them her laptop whih 12 years ago was cool to 10 year olds. I was nervous but I know I couldn't do it when she was 6 and alone. |
