OH NO! Sorry to hear about this and I hope and pray that everything ends up being okay. Please keep us all posted! Sending hugs and prayers! |
Update on Daddy Daddy's procedure went fairly well. He was bleeding from a major blood vessel in the cecum and the Dr cauterized it. Dr. said that if he has another bleed (which is common in this case) he will have to remove the remainder of his colon. (Daddy had surgery in '75 to remove a grapefruit sized benign tumor from his colon where 15 inches of the colon were removed.) He is awake and alert but his BP is still very low. The hospital has 2 more units of blood for him, but they're waiting for a blood test to come back. We are very blessed that when he fell, he did not break anything. The x-rays show that he has no discs remaining between the vertebrae in his back beginning at mid-back and continuing all way down. This has set up arthritis and the fall inflamed the arthritis. I feel so lucky that he is still with us. The Dr. who did the procedure said that if we hadn't gotten him to the hospital when we did he would've bled out. Thank you all, YT family for your prayers and well wishes. I love you all and wish I could hug each and every one of you. |
My prayers are with him for a speedy recovery |

Update 4/26/07 Thank you all so much for your prayers! We're in the process of trying to transfer Daddy to a larger hospital because of his back. The orthopaedic surgeon here says there's no surgery that will help his back, however, he may be able to have injections in the spinal column (similar to an epidural) that would have to be repeated 4 times/yr. If it'll stop the pain I'm all for it. He can't even stand up. It breaks my heart to see this strong, loving man who's worked all his life for his family like this. When I lay down at night all these memories keep flooding thru me. Daddy paying me and my sisters .25 to sweep up sawdust in his shop and walking us to school every day. Him waiting up on the front porch for us to come home from dates................ I just can't stand seeing him like this...................... |
Glad to hear there's some relief on the way...I hope he continues to recover.... ....I know what you mean about seeing a parent that was the strong, healthy one, living life so productively & independently... it seems like in one day...suddenly.... they seem so frail, vulnerable, dependent...where did the time go??.....Sometimes it's so sad & scary...it's like waiting to exhale....Thoughts & prayers are w/ you & your family.... |
Oh........your update made me cry! My father is in good health, but getting older and I will sometimes lay there at night and think back too! It is so sad to see our parents getting older.....and now, untop of that, you are dealing w/ this too. I am so sorry! I do wish him well! You, your family and your father will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers! |

Maybe the Daddy you remember from growing up is not the same right now, but he's still here loving you as much as he always did. Now you get the chance to return that caring love back to him. He may just be back to the way he always was once the pain subsides. I hope so and will pray for that also. |
Update 4/27/07 - BAD NEWS Daddy had 2 new bleeds today. I went to check on him during my lunch hour and had almost gotten back to work when my Mama called and said to turn around, they were rushing him to emergency surgery. They took him in at 1:20 and had to remove the rest of his colon. The surgery was finished at 4:30. The surgeon didn't do a colostomy (THANK YOU GOD!) and left enough to connect the small intestine to the the stump he left of the colon. When we went into his room, he looked me in the eye and said,"I don't want to hurt like this anymore. I want to go be with God. I would give anything to take his pain. He's such a good man - he doesn't deserve this! Please keep praying............... |
Hope your dad has a speedy recovery! |
I am so sorry and I feel your pain. I have been taking care of my parents for awhile now, and my Mom just passed away and to see them so helpless is devastating and they feel so bad for putting us thru it even though we are happy to help them. I am so glad they did not have to do the colostomy. My dad has had one for nearly 8 years and it is very difficult. He is 87 years old and it is very hard for him to takke care of. I will pray for his recovery and relief from his pain. |
I am praying for you guys, please let me know if there's anything I can do to help!! |
