Does anyone have back porch/deck ideas?? I'm moving into a house relatively soon and I need to get some ideas on what to do in the back yard. The previous owners had a dog who dug holes all throughout the backyard almost making it a safety hazard and now I need to find a solution so that I can be able to sit back there without worrying about falling into one of the holes. I just want something to put a couple chairs, a grill and maybe a table. I was thinking about making just a small wooden deck, but I don't know if that will work or not. The back door is level with the ground so having a raised platform might be kind of awkward as you are coming out of the house. I am also still a college student, so money is kind of an issue. Does anyone have any ideas? What can I do to fix this?? |
I've always wanted a pergola w/ a beautiful wisteria vine hanging on it....most pergolas are a tad expensive but Sam's had one for only $399 if your a do it your selfer... I LOVE those!! The only problem I would have would be maintaining it. :) Anyone else have any ideas? I need something to place on the ground so that I won't fall in the holes in the backyard or that I lose a Yorkie in one of the holes! |
First off I wouldn't put up with any holes in the yard. I would have a company level the yard and put turf down. :) |
Maizee, if you have a lot of holes then you might be better off having a truck from a nursry co. deliver some top soil & grab your shovel & wheel barrel & fill those in. |

Shouldn't you have arranged with the landlord before signing the lease and moving in to fix the holes in the backyard? I could see fixing those problems being expensive, and even more of a hassle. |
I haven't moved in yet, nor have I signed the lease, but I have put a deposit down saying I will be moving in. They aren't large holes and the back yard is really hilly. That whole side of town is. The landlord is going to fill the holes in, but it's gonna be about two months before he gets to it and I figured I could just help him out by putting something back there to cover them up :). Oh well, I guess I could just wait. |
You could get some top soil and fill those in and have the land lord take it off your rent. It is his reponcability so he should be okay with doing that. Also can you post pics of your back yard so we can get a idea of what you are working with as far as a porch. |
