Adult Acne?? Ok... I'm getting older... Well not older... but early 30's and I'n seriously getting acne! Like oily around my chin and jaw and hair line?? What gives??? I look like a teen! BUT NOT IN A GOOD WAY! LOL I used to use MURAD which is what I am thinking of going back to... but I thought I would check with you all first and see what you guys would reccomend?? Anyone else dealing with this?? k |
I've never had to deal with acne, but I know a lot of people who have and they use Proactive. I think it's worth trying. :p |
:( wish I had a few pimples instead of wrinkels  lol |
Hey, I have noticed the same thing w/ me!!! My daughter had gotten meds from her derm. that I used some of and they didn't work (can't remember the name)....then, we tried every over the counter stuff......(from MaryKay to Avon to ProActiv)....she has used ProActiv for awhile. It seemed to have worked good for both of us for awhile, but then it didn't seem to be helping w/ the problem. We even tried "natural" remedies too. Two weeks ago, my daughter seen an ad in one of her teen mags for Neutrogena (sp)....we bought the four bottles of stuff that the ad mentioned and we have liked it so far. We bought: Oil Free Acne Stress Control Power Foam Wash, Oil Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment Gel, Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion and then a Exfoliating Daily Scrub. These were about $6-7 each. My face seems to be more on the dry side, but if I put moisturizer on, it seems too oily. Course, I have been dealing w/ hypothyroidism (low thyroid) for awhile, so that may be my cause. Course, this weather doesn't help either. I would love to hear if there is anything new out there that might work!!! We have plans on making an appt. with our dermatologist pretty soon, just to see what he says too........ |

Im 33 and get them along my jaw line or right below... I refer to them as "my tumors" because thats they look like to me. I cant use proactive it dries me out way to bad!!! I switched to Oil of Olay and that seems to work. |
My daughter is 33 and has cystic acne. This started when she was a teen, they tried the antibiotics, Retin-A, etc. prior to Accutane. She took a course of Accutane and had no flare-ups for 2 years but then it came back. They gave her Accutane again 2 times but each time the flare-ups were coming back faster like 14 months and then less than a year. Accutane has many side effects and she doesn't want to risk it again. The dermatologist has even tried a fluid pill hoping to rid her body of some of the androgen, this worked for a while but then like everything else lost it's effect. She is now taking another anti-biotic and told me yesterday she doesn't feel anything under her skin at this time but still the places need to heal on the outside. She can't take birth control pills which are prescribed to some because these cause her to get dark splotches on her face. The Pro-Active, Murad etc. do nothing for her except dry her skin out and cause her to peel. I will be happy to get a list of all the meds from her if any of you guys would like to know what has been tried. She is now talking about checking into laser treatments. |
Yes when I was younger and everyone else was getting zits, I was having kids. As I get older and everyone else is now having kids, I am getting zits. Not sure what gives. :p  |
I tried Proactiv, and it worked but was really harsh on my skin so I had to stop using it. It's a good product, but just not for me. So I tried Arbonne's Clear Advantage. It worked really well for me. |
I still get it too. Mostly on my neck under my back jaw. I notice it's linked to stress. Also I noticed that when I went off the pill it was really really bad so I went back on it. (I'm 38) I also get red blotches on my face on my cheeks by my nose and my forward and through my eyebrows, with dry flakey skin. I look like I have rosacea. I too think this is stress related, didn't start until my separation/divorce about 5 1/2 years ago. Heat and weather trigger it too. It's really bad after a steamy shower and when the weather changes seasons. :( I hate it. |
I am 31 and I use proactiv and it works really well I hardly have any break outs anymore |
Hey! I am an Esthetician, so this is what I deal with on people everyday. Here are my suggestions-- 1-ProActive is good (and usually recommended for 26 and younger because some people older then that have bad/too drying reactions) BUT if you are really oily it may be exactly what you want, and may work perfect for you. (I love it and use it and I am 26.) 2-Chemical Peels! Chemical peels are awesome when it comes to breakouts (and aging!). They have helped soooo many people clear up their skin. They are a little uncomfortable, but it is only for a few minutes. And they can be quite pricey. You can get them in Day Spas and Medical Spas. 3- Antibiotics There are some cases where there isn't ANYTHING to do on the outside and it has to be treated internally. A simple antibiotic like Bactrim, Minocycline or Doxycycline will clear it up pretty well. 4- Liver Cleanse Again, some people have so many toxins internally that they need to clean from the inside out. I knew a girl who had horrible acne, nothing could cover it. She started taking drops to cleanse her liver and her skin is amazingly clear now. These are just my suggestiongs, there are lots more products and things to try out there, but these are the things I have seen the best results with. |
Also- --Acne on your cheeks, chin and jawline are usually hormonal. (Hormones suck! It seems everything women have to deal with are because of them!) --On your forehead, nose and temples are usually just oily areas and are easier to treat. (I had horrible acne when I was younger and have had a few times I have had to deal with it as an adult, so please know I am not just writing what I have read in a text book. I have dealt with this enough to have become very passionate about it. ;) what a sad thing to be passionate about-haha ) If you have any questions for me, please ask. |
Looks like you got some GREAT advice from Meg. I have never had acne or anything but I have a friend who has and these were some things her doctor told her to do. I would concentrate on leaving sugars out of your idea, including juice, soda, candy, cakes, etc. Drink lots of water, veggies and protein. Diet has a lot more to do with skin issues than most people know. I'm sure its a hormonal/stress related stuff so the meds may not work as a permanent solution. I would also discontinue use of make up for a while until it clears up. Good luck! |
I've been breaking out because I'm pregnant...anything you're not sharing ;) Just kidding, I used proactiv and it worked for awhile and then actually caused my face to break out again because it became too drying. (I can only use it for like 4 months at a time). I used to take oral antibiotics when I was a teen and they worked great...but dermatologists don't like you to be on those for too long, eventually they'll stop working as effectively. I would say if over the counters don't work, hit up a dermatologist for the most complete list of options that will work best for your skin. |

The acne that I have been getting lately is on my jawline and lower cheeks. I thought it was because of my thyroid, but then, it only started after I used a moisturizer cream.....I mean, I would get a few here and there (especially during that time of the month), but these were bad. I stopped using that cream and the pimples are gone, but not the red marks....I hope they fade away eventually. This month has been super busy here, so eating healthy has gone on the wayside for awhile.....but next week, is slow and that will be the week I get back to all fruits and veggies for awhile....I hope that helps. Thanks for all the posts about this....I find it all very interesting and helpful! |
It used to be a that time of the month thing for me too... but then again so was the bitch thing... LOL I guess as I get older that time of the month is just getting longer and longer! ;) My chin, my jaw line and lower cheeks... and lately the hair line??? Its just not cool! I swear, I am not happy about it one bit. I was going to try the Proactive but i had read that it was a bit harsh on older skin. I might just stick with Murad. They have parducts for older and aging skin as well. I love their lines and they have products targeted towards every problem you can think of. Even the dark spots left behind after these things heal.. LOL Hormones SUCK! My poor 11 year old is cycling right along with me right now... she has yet to start, but her moods and whatnot are right there! I told her the other day, as she was curled up on the sofa crying, that her whores were moaning! LOL she laughed and asked me what I meant... I just explaned the whole rollercoaster ride to her... Twists and turns and all! I told her that all she was missing was the "show" lol She was Laughing her butt off when I was done... But crying a couple of hours later... Over God knows what??? So how old do I have to be for this face crap to stop??? This is NOT my idea of growing old gracefully! (Not that I had any intention of doing so in the first place!) k |
I just looked and one of the meds that the dermotologist gave to my daughter was Differn - it is a gel that is not as harsh on her skin. It seemed to work, but like everything else, it seemed to quit working after several months. She had a use some sort of medicated wipes on her face before the gel. We are still awaiting a "cure"!!! (hee, hee) |
I don't know about a miracle cure, but I do know that with my beer goggles on I look hot!! I don't notice them at all. a ha ha ha ha :lol tears Ok, I'm just kidding. I wish I had the cure too. Drives me nuts. I'm taking my daughter to the dermatologist next month for her psoriasis. She's got those little tiny blackhead looking things around her mouth. I'm going to ask, I'll let you know what he says. |

It may not be adult acne... Let me tell you my story. I was about the same age as you when I started breaking out all over my neck, jaw, chin, back of my neck. It was horrible. And they weren't regular pimples, they were little tiny white heads. Well, I pretty much tolerated it for a year and a half, trying everything out there, but nothing worked. It seemed about every month, they'd break out real bad, and then after a couple of weeks, settle down only to come back again the following month. So I started thinking it was hormonal--related to my cycle or something. Well...we moved into a new house, and after a short while, it seemed I stopped getting them. So then I started thinking I was allergic to something in my old house (carpet, mold? I don't know.) So, time goes by, and I decided to go and get my hair done by the girl I used to get it done with. It had been a few months since I had been to her. So guess what. Shortly after I got my hair done, they came back. I put 2 and 2 together and decided that I was getting something from the cape at my hairdresser. I haven't been back and I haven't gotten them again. So, it may not be acne... |
I used to have breakouts all the time until I start using Philosophy Purity cleanser. I think It has been a good 2 months with no breakouts now. I just love the line. I am obessed I have to have more. They have skin care, bath and body products. My girls both use Proactiv and it has really made a differnce in their skin. It has only been a couple week and they are getting much less breakouts. They are only using it at night too. I think if I could get them to use it twice a day they would be totally clear by now. |
I'm still gonna SWEAR by Benzyclin. It's prescription but worked like a miracle for me. i have been getting bad acne for over 30 years and this stuff worked like it was sent by a divine being. I would have sold my soul to have this stuff when I had been a teenager. Just a note. Different things work different for different people and this stuff was just MY miracle drug |
I seem to get the same thing. Thanks for all the post - I will have to try some of the products mentioned. |

I get them at the hairline too! I so thought I'd be done with this stuff by now. It's really bad right now, but I *have* been under a lot of stress lately. |
When I was pregnant (both times), I broke out really bad and it felt like the cyst things under the skin. I even got them horribly on my chest and back. Now, where they were, I no longer have the bumps but the red marks like scarring. After, I had them, I no longer break out on my back and chest anymore. I do however, still break out on my chin, cheeks, and hairline as well as sometimes right between my eyes. What would be good to help with getting rid of the marks from where they have been? |
