google earth!! So... In one of my classes today we were using google earth. My goodness is this program...different. I typed in my address and it showed not only house, but my brother's car in the driveway along with the family mini van  But it's cool when you type in things like Paris, France and you can see the city. I am now obsessed with this...but a little creeped out by how it shows your exact house and every last detail. Has anyone else used this? Or even heard of it? It's...different  |

I use it and at first I too was creeped by it when it showed all the stuff on my back deck. However, I a year or so later I used it again and the detail was no where near as clear. Not sure if it is my puter. For a while I used it to spy on people I did not like (work-related).:D |
I love it!! It's great, I discovered it by accident one day and keep the shortcut on my desktop. I zoomed in onto my home city back in Europe and found the apartment building I grew up in :) . And my old school and Grandma's house.. I love it |
I love this program!! Talk about how technology has advanced uh? |
here's the link http://earth.google.com/tour/thanks-win4-optimized.html |
how do you check addresses? |
is it only in certain cities or states or anywhere? |
THAT is the COOLEST program I've been on - I've used goodle satellite but this is way better - you can zoom in by hovering in the right corner and you type in your addresses on the left side and it zooms you across the world to that spot - this rocks !! I went and looked up all the places I've lived....thanks for sharing it !! |
hmm it won't let find my house.... bummer |

oh I think it's a neat program I was just saying that it was kind of creeping me out at the same time, I mean they showed my house, the exact landscaping, and our family van and my brother's car in the driveway. it makes me think about a satelite hovering over my house taking pictures for all the little nosey people out there  :p |
Hmmm...interesting program but it didn't do much for me. I downloaded it and typed in my address but all it did was bring in a map of the 'general' area that my house is in...you couldn't even make out the trees. The whole area was just a big green blob but when I took their tour of other places that were on their drop down list it brought them up in great detail. |
It just uses satellite photos that the government has released so typically they will be older ones. You'll notice places "of interest" are more recent and better quality". If there are many trees around, the satellite can't see thru those of course but it's still way cool to check them out. Look at the oceans too - you can see ships and schools of fish if you look for them! Another neat feature of Google Earth - you can "tack" your vacantion pictures on the map with photo tags. We have a picture of my husband and I on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. So when you zoom in on Table Mountain, there's a link you click and there we are! I think that's just on our computer though...you can't see everyones photo tags. It's a fun thing to play with! :) |
I didnt even knwo about it but Im defiently going to check it out! Dont you love the power of the world wide web? So awesome! :p |
