Dept. store make-over? Has anyone gotten a make-up redo at the dept. store ???........ I've passed by those & wanted to try it but I was afraid I'd walk out like Tammy Faye Baker.....Are they really trained like a person in a salon or are they glorified sales girls??...How was it for you??? |
I used to do them on my lunch hour every once in a while - you'll enjoy it and they don't make you look like Tammy Faye....:D just be careful cause they try to sell you all the products they use and that can get pricey |
I had one done the day of my wedding. Clinique did it. I loved it |
Thanks..I may give it a try next time I'm there...I was a little turned off because the work is being done in the aisles, it wasn't very private... |
The two times I did it (once at Sephora and once at Marshall Fields) they made me look ridiculous. Part of the reason is that they don't really know what looks good on olive skin. At the Marshall Fields they put so much bronze eyeshadow on me, I swear I was glowing...it looked good once I wiped it down some. And at Sephora they had a hard time matching a foundation to my skin and then they used a powder that left my skin looking really flakey. It all depends on the person you get though. I'm sure there are some out there that actually know how to do makeup. I just never lucked out. |
I had it done years ago at a Marshall Fields. When you got a full facial & makeup. When they were done I imediately went to the DR because the girl had poked my eye & there was this clump in my eyelash. It was a crab. The Doctors office reported them & sure enoungh they were passing them from one to another. Never again for me. |
I do it everytime I need someting new (I LOVE MAC COSMETICS). That way I buy what I was originally going to by and they feel satisfied that I didn't walk away empty-handed. I haven't gone here in Wisconsin though since there are hardly any nice stores near where I live. AGHHHH! I can't wait to go back to Texas. |
I got one at Nordstrom once with Chanel products. I told her that I like more natural looks, and ended up looking like a clown. Couldn't get to the restroom fast enough to wipe it off. Try it though. What's there to lose as long as they use disposable appliers? |

I think it depends what you like. If you like the more natural look, Origins is great. I love the refreshing feeling that the makeup gives you. If you like elegant and sophisticated, try Estee Lauder, and if you like the flashy, bright make up then I recommend Mac. I always make sure that they use new stuff and I ask the price of whatever they are putting on me, if I can buy it that day, I tell them to go ahead and open mine and use it. My friend has all the Mac brushes and always carries her own stuff in her purse, so they use that. Pipersmommy, I am so sorry you had to go through that. Did they get fired? |

ohh i love to have mac do this for me, if you actually call them and tell them you want them to do your makeup they cahrge you 40 dollars and then they take some off your makeup if you buy it but i just go in there and tell them well im thnking of looking at this color line and they will test iton you and such but the ones around here at mac and benefit and clinue are im not to sure abotu others though i see some inthe middle of the mall selling like those minerial makeups but i dont know some of them look uhhhh so i would stick to the sept stores but i always look for the most confident one, or there are a few but they really know whattheya re doing but they use alot of the littel brushes and techs that we either need to learn or follow along with them as they do it or you will buy all that stuff and when you get home it wont look anything liekk what they did i was to cheap to buy the brushes and such to their stuff and when i got home i could not get the look like they did so i took it back to them and they offered a refund but i said no just sell me the brushes or tell me how to use it and they did nad now it looks great but still not as great as theirs |
