Recipes for using very ripe bananas?? We went out of town over the weekend and took a bunch of bananas with us...while I guess the warm car ride really ripened them to the point that they are a little too ripe to eat by themselves. Does anyone have any quick and good recipes or ideas that will help me use up the bananas before I have to throw them away? Thanks |
Banana Bread |
What is your recipe for Banana Bread? |
|
Oh yeah, ripe bannas are the best used in bananna bread (I add chocolate chip morsels, yummy!) tons of recipes on www.foodnetwork.com Or throw them into a smoothy mix with strawberries or any seasonal fruits with non-fat milk or yogurt. It really sweetens up the smoothie naturally so that you don't need to add sugar or honey. Yummy. |
Don't throw them away. You can always just tuck them in the freezer and thaw them out when you have enough to make something. |

Duh!! I didn't even think about a smoothie......my daughter would love that! YorkieMom55: How do you freeze yours...just in the freezer bags w/ the whole banana intact (peel still on)? I heard that you can put a banana (peel still intact) in a jar in your refrig and it will not turn brown. I haven't tried that though. -- course, you would still need to eat it soon...they just are said not to turn brown so fast. Thanks! |
I was at my baby sister's house one day and her kids asked for banana bread for them and their friends. She opened the freezer and pulled out these dark brown bananas from everywhere in her freezer (not in bags, just loose). She had them tucked all over the place. She just tossed them in a bowl and after they started to thaw she just squeezed them out of the peels. She said that she never throws out over ripe nanna's, just tucks them in the freezer for later. The peels turn real dark brown but they make tasty bread. I do the same thing now. If I'm making any nut bread or muffins I add one just to keep them moist. |
the riper the banana the more tasty the banana bread...you get more flavor and more sweetness. I dont have a recipe though :( |
Not really a recipe but, something that I think tastes SO good is if you take a really ripe banana and peanut butter and mash them up. |

YUM....that sounds good. I can see it now...spread on wheat waffles, graham crackers, etc. YUMMMMMM..... |
one other thing I love is banannas sliced on bread, with peanut butter. It sounds gross but I personally love it. Yes, the chocolate chip in bananna bread is my hubby's personal favorite as well as co-workers! It's the best, especially if you LOVE chocolate. |
