Does anyone have a Kirby Hey guys! I know that alot of you were talking about the Dyson animal and how good it was. I was wondering how many of you have a Kirby, and which you would recommend as the best vaccum. Also, if you have the Kirby, which model? I am in desperate need for a new vaccum cleaner and undecisive on which of these two I want. Thanks! :) |
I have a Kirby but it has to be about 20 yrs old. I had it rebuilt about 10yrs ago because it was worth it. If I had to buy another today I would go for the Dyson. My daughter has one and it's an upright which is nice. You can see everything your picking up. It does a great job and has an hepper filter (s) in it to prevent the dust from flying around. Suppose to be healthier. |
All I know is that my mother had a kirby and had nothing but expensive troubles with it. My neighbor across the street bought one from a door to door salesman and paid over $1500 for it. That to me is too much. I bought an Oreck. It was just over $400 (after tax and shipping) for the upright, a canister/hose vac, and a small cordless. I love it. One might say it really sucks (ok...bad joke, I know) :D :p |
I have a Kirby it is model G4 I love it works great The only complant I have it is heavy. I was lucky My MIL gave it to us as a house warming gift and I have had no troubles with it at all I would give it 4 out of 5 stars just because it is heavy. It also comes with a hepa filter and I think the newer ones are lighter and have even better filters :) |
Thanks guys. We had a door to door salesman come to our house yesterday. It was unbelivable and we have been here less than a year!! Like you said though it was very expensive and just out of our budget to pay $1800 for a vaccum. I have looked them up on ebay though and you can get them for much cheaper. I also got a coupon from overstock.com for $40 off the dyson 14 animal and could get it for $399 and free shipping. I was just wondering which would be the best for the money. |
I have used both and recommend the dyson. Kirby is too heavy and the dyson has more pick up power!!! |
I've never had either one. I did have a salesman come and demonstrate the Kirby and it was wonderful. I just told him I couldn't afford one and he said that he wasn't suppose to tell me, but that is just what the company would like to get out of them that you can talk them down to half price. I still didn't buy it though. I'm really wanting one of the Dyson. |
vac's Kirby is very heavy...and awkward. |
I have both as well. The Kirby is very heavy but I like it because I can shampoo and it is is easy. I think its about 12 years old! I just got the Dyson (purple) and so far I like it. My 2 reasons is, it is lighter and I really love that you can pull up the attachment hose in an instant without having to stop vacuuming, take the vac apart to attach a hose! It's already there.... However, the instructions are very vague?? Did anyone find that too? |

I had a Kirby, but it became to heavy to push. I now have an Oreck & love it. |
I've always had an Electrolux but when it came time to buy another one I bought a Kirby. To tell you the truth I did not like it. I paid about $1800 including the attachments but I never like it much. I now have a Electrolux and I love it. |
I don't see paying a lot of money for a vacuum cleaner if the only carpet you have is in the bedrooms. :D Anyway, I just bought a new Hoover and it's HORRIBLE! Noisy and now the brush won't rotate and there is nothing stopping it. My husband is downstairs right now in fact trying to fix the problem. I bought a Consumers Reports magazine and they listed four as best buys: Kenmore Progressive with direct drive 35922 $300.00 Kenmore Progressive with direct drive 36932 $300.00 Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 $140.00 Kenmore Progressive 25512 $300.00 |
If you get one -- be sure it is self-propelled. I had one that was not and that hunker was HEAVY! I sold it at a garage sale for a pittance but was glad to move on to something else. I went from that to an Oreck and thought it was heaven. Now I have a Dyson Animal DC17 and absolutely love it. I think it rivals the Kirby for suction power but is so much easier to use. |
I love my Electrolux. :) I've only had 2 in 23 years, they seem to run forever. Before that I had Hoover's and I think I must have had 2 of them in about 8 years. :( |
