I need your help Is anyone here or know of any Dieticians that will talk with me to help increase my 8 mo preemie's calorie intake. He's been on the 5% growth pattern and they are wanting to increase his calories more. He's a slow eater and I can get him to eat 3 baby jars of food (2.5oz) 3 times a day w/ a bottle that is mixed 24cals of 4-6.5 oz each time. But he needs to gain more weight they are screaming at me. If i try to feed him more he spits it all up plus more. I really am in need. My little guy is behind developmentally on his milestones and i am under going more test but weight weight weight.. it's mentally startn to get to me. I literally broke down at the dr's office today when she told me she wants to test for liver failure and hydrocephalus :( i just honestly dont think i can do this alone anymore and yet i have to keep chugg'n along because Bruce needs me. So if anyone can help me out with a dietician I would greatly appreciate all the help. |
I would recommend a pediatric nurse practitioner. One helped us tremendously when our granddaughter decided at about 8 months, that she would stop nursing, and eat only what she could feed herself (which isn't much at 8 months). She was anemic and we were really worried about her. The nurse practitioner really worked with us to get her to eat. Since she would only eat what she could pick up with her fingers, we did things like grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled with lots of cheese and lots of butter and grilled very lightly and then cut up in small pieces so that she could pick them up and put them in her mouth. If you are near the University of Arizona or Arizona State university, you might be able to call the school of nursing for a referral. Have you asked your doctor for a referral? |
I am currently doing a NICU, Postpartum and Labor and Delivery rotation. My clinical instructor is a Advanced practive nurse midwife..........I will be more than happy to ask her, the NICU nurses, PA's and Doctors for any advice for you. I am a preemie myself (27 weeker and weighed in at 17.5 onces) all 3 of my siblings after are preemies too and have such a great love for that field. You can PM me. Hugs, Jess |
