Overdosed,Suicidal, Maniac! I had a very bad experience today, and just wanted to vent. I was driving to my mom's house this afternoon (with my kids, my sister, and Tucker in the car), when I noticed a car about 1/2 mile behind me swerving off of the road. The car was on my butt in a matter of seconds, almost rear-ended me, and then swerved to the other side of the road. I picked up my cell phone and called my husband's work -911. (He is a 911 Dispatcher)She went down in the grass median (2 lane divided highway) then swerved back and RAN ME OFF THE ROAD. I was on the phone with his coworker and while she was dispatching the police, I was telling her what was going on. She accelerated and got pretty far ahead of me. I tried to catch up to her to get her license plate number, and I watched her run another car off of the road. She then rode the concrete median into town, luckily the traffic light was green, cause she blew right through it. She then swerved into oncoming traffic. Several cars swerved out of her way, but there was a steady stream of cars coming from the other way, and just in time she swerved into the turn lane. She ended up hitting a truck that was stopped waiting to turn. Then, she didn't stop, she kept revving the engine and hitting the back of the truck. I stopped long enough to get her license plate, and could tell that she was having some sort of health/alcohol problem. Dispatch sent the police and an ambulance, and I had to pull over in a bank parking lot until I could stop shaking. I just found out that she had overdosed on drugs, her wrists were freshly slit, and she was suicidal. My husband said that she was still in the hospital this evening, but will be going to mental health when she is able to. I have never felt as much rage as I did when I found out that she was trying to kill herself. She endangered my family's life and many many more people who were in the other cars that she passed and ran off the road. I am so thankful that it turned out the way that it did, and no one was hurt/killed. I now feel sorry for this lady. Please say a prayer for this lady who so desperately needs help. She will be in my prayers for a long time to come. Missy |
Wow how frightening. I'm certainly glad no one got hurt. |
First of all, I'm sooooo glad you didn't get hurt! Secondly, you did such a good job calling 911. This person needed to be off the road. And last, how SAD that someone could become so desperate. I can't imagine wanting to hurt myself and being willing to injure someone else in the process! |
That is sooo scary. Im glad you didnt get hurt! |
That is very scary!! The same thing happened to me a few months back (not as bad) but it was still very scary! |
Very scary. Glad everyone is ok. |
WOW, thats scary. So glad you and your family are ok and I hope this girl gets the helps she desperately needs. |
Glad you are ok Missy, good for you.....I am really glad that you and your family are ok.....but, equally as important is that you probably single handedly saved this woman from something......the accident yes, but also from HERSELF. That is very commendable of you. I guess, one never knows what is going on in someone's life.....for her to want to do those harmful things to herself...is very sad. I know you are upset and angry to encounter this, but, just know that you were put into that situation on that day.......to save a life.....and you DID!!!! God bless you. :) Shirley |
That must have been frightening beyond words! Fortunate you were able to get someone there before there was a loss of life. Very compassionate in your attitude toward the lady who put so many in danger. That must have been a horrible low point she reached. Drugs have ruined way too many lives. Maybe there will be a positive of this and she will get help to turn away from them. |
Update The police are still investigating, but they think that she took the drugs at her house and then got in the car and started driving berfore she started feeling the effects of the drugs. The kicker-she lives over an hour away from where i first saw her driving recklessly. It was another 10 miles before she crashed into the truck. It makes me sick to think how many people had been in danger while this was going on. Another kicker- my mother in law is a nurse at our local hospital, and this woman is on her floor. Small world. Thanks for all of the kind words. This experience has bothered me a lot, and it helps to know that I can always turn to YT for comfort. You guys are all great! Missy |
Thank God you're okay! That sounds really crazy! Years ago when I was still in school I actually had a guy run out in the road (a small side street) in front of my car and when I slowed down and tried to go around him, he THREW himself at my car! He busted the front windshield and cut his hand. Thank goodness some women were driving in the other direction and the driver happened to look in her rearview mirror and see it happen. She said she had seen him and his wife having a throw-down in their front yard as she passed the house and that's why she looked back. I totally lost it screaming at him while the cops were being called (stupid on my part since he was clearly a lunatic but I wasn't thinking straight at the time) and I told him if he wanted to truly commit suicide, the better choice would be to throw himself in front of a BUS, not my Honda! Crazy people out there!! But YOUR crazy lady could have killed other people. I hope she gets the help she needs. |
How sad! I do hope she recovers and the way you handled it was great, but I have a problem with people who have such terrible issues that they want to die who take other people with them. I guess it's good that she went out or she would have died, but keep out of your car! I feel the same way about drunken drivers, rejected lovers who take their exes and sometimes children with them, and so on. Sorry - I just needed to say that. I do feel for her and you really saved her life. Judy |
Missy, this post scared me for you, and touched me at the same time. I currently have a loved one in the hospital who tried to commit suicide. Our first reaction is anger, how can they be sooo selfish? how can they not think of others they are hurting or going to hurt? But in all honesty they are beyond all rational thought by this point. For you to realize that she is a sick woman who needs much help and not be angry at her is a wonderful attitude. I wish more people were able to open their hearts and feel your kind of compassion towards those obviously less fortunate. Im very happy that you and your family and noone else was hurt by her actions. I hope she is getting the help she desperately needs! Take care!! |
So glad to know you are ok and were not hurt in any way by this woman. What a scary situation to be in... She will certainly be in prayers... |

My kids are still bothered by what happened. They are talking about it a lot. I tried to explain that the lady was sick and had to go to the hospital, but they saw her run off of the road several times, saw her almost run in to us as I ran off of the road, and saw the actual crash. Today was a little better, but I don't think any of us will ever forget it. Missy |
