On-line bill pay systems?? Can anyone recommend a good bill pay system? I was using CheckFree for quite a while and really loved it but for some reason about half of my creditors that were set up have stopped using CheckFree. Right now I'm trying out my bank's bill pay system but am not loving it much. With CheckFree, it would send you a reminder when the bill was received (and the payment amount due) and I could go straight from there to the bill's website to look at it any time. With my bank one, I have to always know which bill is due when and the amount (which I get from going to each creditor's website) before I go to the bank website to set up the payment. AND with CF I could set up the payment in advance to hit the creditor's records on an exact date. With my bank, they actually cut a check and send it out. CF was all electronic. I really liked being able to pay a bill that was due say on the 1st, on that day exactly. Anyone use a good one that sounds similar to CheckFree?? Oh, and it needs to be FREE! :-) |
I didn't know that there was a way to do them all electronically. Just one thing about going through the bank's auto pay where they send the checks. Usually the banks do that through a third party. It may be difficult to put a stop payment on a check (lost in the mail or any other reason) and it could also be difficult to get a copy of the third party check. (Too many years working for Federal Banks.) |

That's what I liked so much about CheckFree. It was an electronic payment from my account to the creditor's account on the exact day I set it up to be sent. There were a few creditors that were not on their system.... like my vet and the orthodontist. Those I had to send a check to but most credit cards, phone bills and the mortgage payment were on the CF system. I'm just really not crazy about the bank's bill pay system because of them having to send checks out. For one, you never quite know when the check will be received and like you said, it can be messy in the case of a lost check. That's why I'm trying to find out if there is another good electronic type system out there. No one else uses CheckFree or a similar system to pay bills??? |
i used to work for usaa insurance for many years. they are military only except for their banking and mortage....anyone can be a member. all of our high ranking officers and presidents are insured with them (except clinton since he did not serve). they have a wonderful system for ckg and it is free as long as you bank with them. their main office is in san antonio tx but you can be anywhere in the world. the only problem is making a deposit, you have to mail it in if you are not in tx. |
Try a new bank. Alot of my payment are electronic. I think the only one that are not is my garbage pickup. I can also set reminders or just do auto pay and it will be paid the same day every month. |
I love that we have it so easy because of computers. I'm still using Chase and have to go to different websites to see what I owe, or have the bill sent to me. Now that's labor intensive because I have to use my paper shredder for the bills! Then there's the problem of what to do with the shredded paper. As if anyone is going to sit down and tape all of my shredded papers together! This has actually become annoying, like you're saying. I'm not insulting you, because I feel the same way, but isn't it wonderful that we're so spoiled? By the way, I love my paper shredder and am seriously thinking of upgrading to a shredder that crisscrosses the shredding. Life is good, Judy |
Most of my bills still come to me the old fashioned way, via U.S. mail. I have a couple that are sent electronically, I get an email notification when the bill is available for payment. I pay most everything through my bank's online payment system. I bank with Bank of America and have had great service. If I pay a bill that does not post to an account my bank contacts the creditor and gets all late fees etc. reversed. It is great to have someone on my side for a change! |
