A blast from my past...... OK....here is the weird prize for the day....I am still in shock! I worked 12 hour shift Wednesday night...got home and went to bed to get some sleep....woke up about 3:30 this afternoon and piddled around with dishes and a few things before getting ready for work tonight (Thursday). My hubby calls home around 4:30 to be sure I am awake.....he stammers and hesitates a bit and said "Larry called....he left his phone number and said you can call him back if you want to..." I was confused...I don't know anyone named Larry...my hubby said..."Larry, you ex-hubby..." MY EX-HUBBY FROM 33 YEARS AGO!!called me TODAY. Yes, I called him back...like we REALLY have not spoken a word to each other in over 33 years.....we were 2 kids out of high school and didn't have a clue what we were doing!!! Never had any children....he screwed around with my best friends and we got divorced. He said he was passing through the area and said he thought I deserved at least a phone call. He apologized for being "a crappy husband and likewise an equally crappy friend"....we had a good talk and I told him thing were good...everything in my life --good and bad-- all happened for a reason. Things happened EXACTLY like they needed to happen ....because it all (My whole life) has made me who and what I am today.....And I am pleased with the way it has all turned out. I think, from the conversation, he has been secretly beating himself up all these years for the whole mess....but we were just kids...too stupid to know any better...not willing to work very hard at anything. Any reflections from you YTer's??? I am still in a bit of a fog....totally shocked!! I am back working tonight...but my mind is a million miles away!!! |
That's great that you looked upon each life experience as a learning experience! It sounds like you are happy now because you never harbored resentment and hatred for him. :) |
Something similar happened to me a few years ago. My blast from the past was an old friend that I had grown up with in a very very small town. He was totally in love with me but I just could not think of him as anything other than a really great friend. You know how it is - there are just some people that you just could NOT even think about having an intimate relationship with. We became best of friends through junior high, high school and college - we even lived together for a while (as friends only) while we were in college. Anyway, we both married and moved on. I hadn't talked to him in 30 years, when one day an email from him appeared. Turns out he had just moved away from the city where I live and we had worked only about 6 blocks away from each other for over TEN YEARS!!! He was going through a divorce and then he ended up moving back to my city. We would go out to lunch and just got caught up with each others' lives. It was so wierd at first - such a coincidence. He stayed in town for about a year and then he moved again. We still talk by email and phone. I still consider him one of my best friends and I always will. No, I didn't tell my husband - he would be jealous and there is absolutely 100% nothing to be jealous about. His health is very tenuous and I don't want him to worry about anything unnecessarily. I don't think that I will ever lose touch with my old friend again and I know that of all the people in the world, I can always count on him to be here if I need something. I only have a few friends like that...... Yeah, it's funny how things work out. |
