30 min. meals Any one out there???.... Has anyone used the 30 minute meals cook book or the one called something like Semi-Homemade???....With summer coming up I just want to prepare something quick & easy (some what) rather than getting out 15 ingredients just to make a meal...not to mention making the same old crap....I'm chained to the kitchen usually from 3:30 to about 6 & I'm tired of it...I'm not into to convenience foods ...just want something simpler .....I'd like to put my shoes on sometime this summer & get out  |
I love watching the shows on food network. I have seen the books at Sam's and thought about buying one. I love cookbooks. |
I have the cookbook, but i haven't tried it yet. I've looked through it and all of the meals seem pretty simple. You can also try www.kraftfoods.com. They have tons of quick and easy meals. |
30 min. meals by Rachel Ray? She's got some good recipes...Someone gave me one of her cookbooks for Christmas, and everything sounds delicious, quick, and easy! |
Here's a quick but good dish you can try... 1 bag frozen shrimp 1 box bowtie pasta (or your pasta of choice) 1 jar Alfredo sauce 1 bag frozen broccoli (or mixed veggies if you prefer) Thaw the shrimp in cold water while you cook the pasta. Boil the veggies and drain them. Drain the pasta, add the veggies and sauce and cook until it's hot. Add the shrimp, stir and serve. It doesn't take much time and you can add a side salad or dinner rolls if you like. |
I really enjoy Rachel Ray, but the few recipes I've tried of Semi Homemade I really didn't care for. I also like to get in and out of kitchen as fast as possible. Especially with summer right around the corner. |
www.foodnetwork.com or www.allrecipes.com You might try those...Good luck! |
I love Rachel Ray. Her Green Minestrone is my favorite. Here's the link to the recipe- http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci...ml?rsrc=search. Yum-O!:p |
I bought a Rachel Ray cookbook and was really disappointed. I'm a really picky eater.. and I don't eat pork or beef.. and that's EVERYTHING she does. |

I just had a Pampered Chef party and the lady told us about cooking a chicken in the deep covered roaster, in the microwave. 30 minutes and a whole chicken was done to perfection -- with no prep other than washing it, season, and sticking it in the stoneware! She also used the batter bowl, put in one box (1 lb) of bowtie pasta, filled the bowl to the rim with water and cooked for 20 minutes in the microwave. Perfect pasta! She made it into a pasta salad to demo some other tools. I think you could use any large glass bowl the same way. We grill a lot too -- I love making kabobs and a big salad for a meal -- we use beef, chicken or shrimp along with whatever veggies we have -- peppers, onions, mushrooms. Might take a little more than 30 min. counting the grill prep time, but cooking is a breeze. |

I will try the kraft web site, thanks.... I always wondered if you can cook pasta in the micro, it's such a pain to wait for the water to boil, thanks also Thanks for the pasta recipe... I love pasta dishes, especially if it has shrimp. I guess my problem is not finding recipes.... it's are they going to be any good:confused:... I am reluctant to try new recipes because I don't know if there going to be any good....throwing away perfectly good meat on a bad recipe is a big no-no. :) |
I have all of the Rachel Ray cookbooks. I love them, but some of the ingredients are hard to find and I don't think I have every made a meal in 30 minutes. |
I have one of Rachel Ray's books and love it. I sometimes alter the recipes a little to what I have on hand. I've found that if I sit down on Saturday and plan my menus I can make it all in one shopping trip and even do some prep work over the weekend. It makes cooking much more bearable and with knowing exactly what I'm going to make on what days of that week I can plan my time accordingly. What I don't get from Rachel I get from the foodnetwork.com or other online recipes. Good luck! |
I like Rachel Ray...some of her ideas are "out there" but always end up tasting good. I can't say they're all healthy, lol....but at least they taste good. LOL. |
Recipes are guidelines not laws---substitute in what you like and out what you don't.:) Don't like beef and pork---make the recipe with chix instead. I agree that the semi-homemade is well, just not yummy enough. I'm not big on processed foods though. If you take the tips of making the menu, and lists you will find things much less stressful. When I was working full time that's what I did as well as cooking ahead on the weekends so that there was stuff ready to pop onto the table for at least 3 days during the week with very little fuss. Cook a large roast on the weekend and use the leftovers to make, pot pies, tacos, salads, soups etc... It's just as time consuming to double a recipe and freeze 1/2 as it is to make a single recipe. Cook pasta ahead on the weekends and just dunk briefly in hot water to reheat......steam double the veggies and use the extra for soups and salads. Make the food work for you instead of you working for the food.;) Does that help? |
I grill almost every meat that I make, usually chicken. I even grill in the winter time it is easier and makes clean up a breeze. I like the frozen peas and corn that you microwave in the bag too, you can mix it up a little by adding to it. Today at the grocery store I found uncle bens rice that you fix in the microwave, but not the frozen kind, it is on the shelf with the other rice and you put it in the microwave for 90 sec and its done. I used it tonight (the brown rice) with fresh asparagus (sp) and garlic and it was very good. Tomato, basil and garlic w/ angel hair pasta w/ grilled chicken is easy too (my favorite dish). Another good way to stay out of the kitchen is to use a crock pot, put something in it that morning and it is done at supper. I don't like to be in the kitchen for a long time either. |
