I got Penny's Bloodwork results in.... We were mostly checking Penny's(my boxer) thyroid when I asked to have bloodwork done yesterday. The vet just called and said her thyroid is "normal" but in the low end of normal so she is in sort of a gray area. The vet said we could put her on medicine but we would have to be really careful not to over do it or she said we can just re-check it in a few months. I decided re-check it becuase at this point if she is still considered in the normal zone Im afraid we could really mess it up. BUt at the same time its hard for Penny to loose weight and she sheds excessively. But other than being a bit overweight she is pretty healthy so Im scrared to mess that up. What would you have done? Did I make the right choice? |
Give Miss Penny a big hug! If it had been me I would probably do the same thing as you. Americans are too quick to try to medicate problems away. I would try to keep an eye on it like you and give her more exercise (calling on your hubby here).:D |
I agree with you, I would just wait and see what the next test shows because if she does not need to be meds the better in my book. I am glad her test came back normal!!!! |
I probably would have done the same thing. Like you said, Penny is still in the good zone even though it is a little low. Keep an eye out for any changes in her. A few months is nothing. My daughter had a parakeet:D who was on thyroid meds for years. Amazing what can be done on any animal to help them live better lives. Good luck on the next test. Maybe there still won't be a change. But if she has to go on meds it will be fine. Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
I think you made the right choice Shana... Penny is a big girl but she is by no means FAT... She could trim up a bit but she's not morbidly overweight. Know what I mean? America's enough medication as it is... poor penny does not need to join the general public! lol I hope her re-check goes well... Maybe more dog park trips will trim her up? Run her butt off! Literally! |
I'm so happy Penny got a good report. That must lift some of the stress off of you. You are doing exactly what I would do. I hate meds and would only use them if absolutely necessary. At least now you know what to look out for. |
Glad Penny was in the normal range. Yeah, just see what it her blood work says in a few months. The thyroid pills really are very cheap and easy to give, though if she does need them. Did you find out anymore about her jaw dysplasia and the sores? |
I think you made the right decision. Since it is still in the normal range, I'd wait to see too. |
I think you made a good decision, too. Give Penny lots of hugs from the yorkie gang in Georgia. :ghug: |
