Patti - we're still praying. Movement and talking, even if difficult to understand is a good thing. Definitely push for rehab. I know you need to be strong for your mom and dad, but you can unload here anytime. |
I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. it must be very frightenng to see your mom like that. May the Lord walk with you nd give you the strength that you need to make it through this difficult time. |
Patti , rehab works wonders for stroke victims. My Mom was there for about a month after her stroke. Try and find a good rehab place for her to get rehabiltated. It is miraculous what the brain can do. |
I am so very sorry about your mom. Your whole family is in prayers!! Julie |
You all are in my prayers Patti. |
I'm praying that you will have the strength to keep on going and make the right decisons and still keep on with daily life. There is so much to take care of... just focus on the MOST important things - the rest will wait or take care of themselves. Blessings to you |

Well said, yes Patti the rest will take care of itself. I hope your Mom shows much improvement as days pass. |
I feel so bad for you and yours. I am praying for her recovery from the stroke. I breaks my heart to know what you're going through, and your parents. I cried when I read how your dad held her hand. May God give you all the strength that you need to get through this difficult time. Hugs to you. |
Patti...I just stumbled onto this thread this morning. Read your update and that certainly sounded more positive. I have had family members have strokes...and in all cases the hospital sent them into rehab prior to suggesting a hospice. All recovered almost fully...I say almost because some continued to have weakness on the one side the stroke affected, but they regained their speech and mental cacipities. Hugs and prayers for strength for yourself. I hope your mother continues to improve and will include her and your father in my prayers. |
Patti, Sorry to hear about your mom. However, good to hear she is showing good signs, movement, speech etc.... We will keep you in our thoughts and check back for updates. |
Update I just got back from the hospital with my Dad, It is easier to take him with then leave him alone. My Mom was talking better, not normal but more words together and more understandable. She is moving the left leg periodically not all the time. SHe is gettig no treatment in the hospital so I got forceful which I am normally very polie and not pushy, but it's my MOM. So after 4 phone calls they are going to transfer her to an excellent rehab facility tomorrow if she doesn't decline any. My Mom has a very strong fear of feeding tubes down her throat and made me promise not to have one put in ever. So I talked to her doctor and the social worker and nurse and they suggested they put one in her stomach that doesn't go down her throat, so I agreed as she needs to get nutrition and can't swallow food yet. They won't take her in rehab without a feeding tube. Now my sister said she talked to my cousin who was suggesting Hospice (she's a nurse) and they think we shoudn't do it, I told my sister I made the best decision I could as Mom will starve to death and I want her to have a chance at rehab before I give up. Thanks for the continuing support and prayers. |

Oh, my goodness...your mother is alert, talking, aware of her circumstances..there is no need to quit now...rehab will be a God send and a feeding tube in her stomach so she can gain strength...if all else is going fine, you will be surprised how much she will gain by rehab and a bit of time... God bless you... |
Still saying prayers for your mom Patti. Take care of yourself, too. |
Good for you! Stand up to them and get her in rehab - not a second too soon! Yes, a gastric (in the abdomen) feeding tube is what she needs at this point. It doesn't sound like hospice is needed right now. It sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. Keep it up! How's your dad doing? Take care! |
