Anyone a Hairdresser? Anyone know anything about getting your hair permanently straightened? I have thick hair and a perm that is growing out (my hair holds a perm for years, until it is cut off) I would like to get a long shag hairstyle, but need to have my hair straightened. I have heard conflicting arguments. Some say it is very bad and harmful to your hair, worse than a perm, and I have also heard that if done correctly, it will condition your hair while straightening. I have tried searching for info on the internet, but no help. Also, I found a hair style that I like, but the picture is not of a real person, it looks almost like a cartoon. Anyone know of any good websites that have good pics of hair styles? Here is the website I found the long shag on (scroll down till you see "long shag") http://www.haircolordiva.com/hair_cut_hair_style2.htm Thanks in advance! Missy |
I have my hair chemically straightened about twice a year (every 6 months or so). My hair is in great shape. I have the Japanese process done and it conditions the hair while straightening it. I love it and highly recommend it! :D |
i love long shags. i always get that cut... always....... your hair would look great |
Thank You! Missy |
would love to see the results. . bet ya your gonna look beautiful |
I have curly hair and have inquired about the straigtening too..... My hairdresser says that it is only good for "virgin" hair that has not been chemically treated at all, and that knocks me out. I can't do without my color, I'm only 34 and lots of gray!!!!! |

I got my perm 2-3 years ago, and colored my hair about 2 years ago, so I should be ok. I am going to schedule a consultation first, then go back for an appointment. I am afraid that it won't turn out how I want it! Missy |
Well, you heard right, IF it's done properly, by a GOOD hairdresser, it's awesome. My best friend has African American hair, and it would never get longer than shoulder length (blown out straight). Since she started getting this process done, her hair is GORGEOUS, shiny, and down to her bra strap so far. She also used to need about 2 hours to blow her hair out, now it takes her 15 minutes. I'm going to her hair lady as soon as I can. |

Hi there! I'm and hairstylist in Virginia and I specialize in Japanese straightening. Like some ppl have already told you , your hair cannot be hightlighted in any way, BC relaxer is very harsh chemical so you have to be carefull with it. Don't get me wrong, I think that it's the best thing that happen to curly hair since flat iron!!! LOL!!! If done properly, it will not damage your hair more than flatironing it will. A lot of ppl see improvement in their hair texture, meaning that their hair is shinier and softer after the procedure. Make sure that you find salon that carries "real" japanese product. Which mean that is made in Japan!!! Also you have to remeber to do conditioning treatments every 2 weeks afterwards. But you will be so happy with it!!! I guarantee it !!! Imagine only that your hair will take only 15 to 10 min to blowdry and if you let your hair dry naturally it will be straight. only downfall to it is that you'll be stuck with this same hairstyle for a LONG time. Remember that Japanese Straightening never goes away from your hair, unless you grow it out. Even if you want to curl your hair for special occasion, it will be close to impossible. But if your mind is set on it, than go ahead and spoil yourself with "easy" hair. Here is page of my hair salon with pics of 2 girls that had it done: http://dolcevitasalon.myblog.com/gallery/2799/ |
you also might need to cut of your old perm, Bc perms are made of different chemicals than relaxers, and if they contreact eachother than your hair will get burn. But you should consult your stylist, that is VERY knowledgeable in this matter. |
