very interesting.. 1 Attachment(s) My son advertised his Babe Ruth locker tag on Yahoo and got a response. He told me about it and I said to go with it and see what happens. After a bunch of emails he was sent a check and told to send the extra back. I checked with the BBB and said it was from NIGERIA. Poor thing he thought he was in the money. It actually has stamps from two or three different banks on it and was signed by an Amir something or other. So what do we do with it now? The check is for 15000.90. He only asked for 8000.00. |
oh my goodness what did the police or the bank say? |
It just came in the mail today, haven't talked to anyone else. |
i think you should go to the bank or the police and make sure the check is good |
OK, I thought what the heck so I search for a website for this company. I called just now and knowing it was fake I asked for the head cheese and introduced myself..and proceeded to thank him for this 15000.00. He laughed and said "another one". They have recieved many calls just like mine, well almost like mine. They figure someone got ahold of an old check, copied it and did whatever they wanted with it. He asked if I would write void on it and fax it to him so he could forward it to their legal dept who are investigating this. I asked him what to do with it now and he said to go ahead and show the police since the emails from these people were getting ugly. So that's where we're at. |
eeks so i assume your son already sent the babe ruth tag? |
Oh he!! no. You don't send something like that inless you have money in your hands..the real kind. |
Wow, I seemed to have killed my own thread.:p |
Well at least your son had his mom to point out the bad news before he gave up his Babe Ruth tag!! Scams are EVERYWHERE! Unbelievable! |
I would never want to go to Nigeria, it seems all the worst con artists live in Nigeria. Evidently there are no laws there. Thank God you were savy enough to catch it. So many people get taken every year. |
It will make a nice conversation piece for your son to frame. Good job mom on catching the scam! |

This happened to my husband a few years ago when we were selling a Race car trailer. He played along with them and they sent him a check for $25,000. He took it to the bank and asked to talk to somebody about fraud. They made him look into the camera and tried to finger print him. The police came and took the check...my hubby said never again, they treated him like the criminal and he was just trying to help catch the scammers. |
