Do you have experience with Vonage? I'm thinking about switching one of my land lines over to Vonage. I was wondering what the pros and cons are, how good is the customer service, and if you have any regrets going with Vonage? Is there another similar company that you would recommend over Vonage? |
I just started using cable phone thru my cable company road runner and really like it. We were paying up to 75 bucks for ONE line and a fax line and now it's 35.00 drawbacks are if you fax alot - you have bad reception... but it's getting better. |
We have Vonage and I've been trying to get my husband to switch to something else. I don't like when we have power outages, the modem has to be reset - otherwise the phone is dead (or rolls over to my cell phone if programmed). We also had problems with "dropped calls" or when someone would call us and we picked up - they couldn't hear us. Later we found out there was a software upgrade (no one told us this), but we went for months with that problem....we thought it was our phone! I'm not impressed - it's inexpensive, yes, but sometimes the frustration isn't worth it. |
That must be a vonage problem....We had a little trouble at the beginning during peak hours - late afternoon - and the phones would be dead but they fixed it and they seem fine now....but I never have to reset anything or upgrade stuff.... |
we use vonage at my parent's business for long distance.. the only thing is you can ear yourself echo in the phone.. and there is a SMALL delay.. but i've noticed an improvement over the past year we've had it |
Bump. More feedback please! |
We switched to Vonage right when they came out a couple of years ago. We were paying just over $100 a month for stupid land line then on top of that, the long distance charges. My husband is from South Africa and calls home often. Our charge to call South Africa was cut in more than half with Vonage plus we can call anywhere in the US and Canada for free. BONUS!! Our reception has always been fantastic. Of course when your cable is out - your phone is out. But we have cell phones as well so it's not usually an issue. If you have poor service with your cable company and don't get good cell service at your house, I wouldn't recommend it. Bottom line - we love Vonage and we love the extra money we have saved (to spend on my fur babies...shhhh) |
We had it for a while and I think the quality would be OK for the average user, but to use it you have to have a really stable, fast internet connection and you do need to have some basic computer/telephony knowledge even though they say you don't. So that person/family would not really be an average user. We found that it was unreliable and we used extra minutes on our cell phones, so we switched. If you get it make sure you take port your phone number so you can take it with you if you switch back. If you get a new number assigned from Vonage they will not let you keep that number. |
Have it hate it. Dropped calls, the echoes, voice mail that picks up at totally random times. than the price. the say it's 24.99 but with taxes and such it's actually almost $40.00 but all said and done. TyTy |
Thanks for your feedback. Does anyone have experience with the Vonage for business? I'm wondering if there are the same issues. I'm thinking of converting my business land line to Vonage or just making it a second line on my cell phone. This paying for three phone lines is crazy (personal, business and cell) when more often than not it is the cell that I use. I have to keep my home land line for the DSL and home security system, and also the fax if I end up just switching the biz number to my cell. |
Bumping this thread up. Any current feedback on Vonage? Vonage for Business? |
I wish I could help you with business but I can't. I did want to say that we *love* Vonage. We've had it for 4 years now and have never had any problems. We live overseas and have for the last 4 years and its been great with its free local and long distance all for 35 dollars. I never have the echoing or the dropped calls like others have expressed. As long as you have a good fast internet provider you will love it. A bonus (for business) if you happen to go out of town you can take it with you and keep business running. I love that we can have our phone anywhere we are. |
we just switched to Vonage and so far its been great. I run my hubbys roofing business out of our house and still I have had no issues. I also have a fax line and so far ( other than my 15 week old Piper chewing the fax line) its been great. No missed faxes, all calls are coming in like champs. My best friend lives in England, and I call her everyday so that in itself is deffo worth the 40 bucks a month we spend. Hope this helps. PM me if you have more ?"s |
