Weird question about cut roses.. I'm having a dinner party on Weds (Vday), and I wanted to get some cut roses. The only thing is, if I get them on Weds, they are almost double the price! Would they be OK if I got them tomorrow instead? If not, I could get them on Weds.. it isn't that big of a deal.. I'd just like to save the money (and hassle of going to the market florists on Weds). Any tips on how to prolong their life? Thanks! |
Good question there. I know most florist places do keep them in a refrigerator, don't they? Wondering if that would work? Don't know, but may be worth a try. If it doesn't work, you'll at least know what not to try next year. |

Why wouldn't it be okay to get them tomorrow? Roses always look newly cut for at LEAST a week.. :) |
I saw it on Good Morning America... keep the refridgerated.... they last alot longer... I have also heard that putting aspirin in the water helps too... |
Yep, aspirin or 7-up. If they begin to wilt, plunge them in ice water for awhile. Keep the stems cut fresh each day so they can drink. That's the most important thing. |
Thanks so much guys. I didn't even think about the fridge! Great idea. :) |
Yes, they will be fine if you can find some that have not opened very much. Re-cut the stems...even if only by a fraction of an inch...at a 45 degree angle. COLD water with either an asprin or 1/3 Sprite or 7-Up and keep them in the fridge. Also...not sure if you are set on a color, but the darker color you choose, the longer they stay fresh looking.:) |
