I have the Animal 07 (purple) purchased at Home Depot - must have been an HD special order because when I opened the box it had every attachment - even the ones that don't normally come with the 07. I've had Oreck, Rainbow, and others, and this one is my favorite. |
Thanks everyone. I have a phantom from HSN and sometimes it won't even pick up a fuzzy from your sock!!! For real! I'm tired of it and want something that is going to get EVERYTHING up. I have whats called "California Berber" and it leaves carpet tracks, so I eant something strong enough to make the nice marks in my carpet too. Guess I'll start saving for the Dyson :) Which Dyson is the latest and greatest with all the power? The DC17? |
I'm in looooove with my oreck:love:   |
I am so glad you asked this question.... I NEVER can find a good vacuum.......I have an Oreck...which I do not like....it NEVER picks up....and cannot get corners....tried the cheapo ones from Walmart.....under 100.00., Eureka.......something about spending a lot on a vacuum drives me nuts.....of course, I don't have a dog yet.....but, now I wish I would have bought a DYSON.....because it is almost not worth the worry and stress of going thru 3 that do not work....just to save a buck.... but, I hate the bagless....they spew the dust when you empty the container.... JMO:D |
I LOVE my Dyson Animal. You won't be sorry if you buy one. |
I have never heard of the Dyson. We have the Oreck XL and we absolutely love it!! It picks up hair and everything so easily and is so light to move or carry. We have the hypoallergenic one and it leaves the rooms smelling so fresh everytime we use it. Is the Dyson a bagless vaccum?? It sounds like a nice sweeper but I can't stand bagless sweepers. I have allergies and everytime I would go to empty them I would be sneezing like crazy and everything else. That is why I have to have one that has bags so there is no dust for me to deal with. |
Built In Nu-Tone We had installed the built in Nu-Tone vacum system in our other home, which we had to install the pvc pipe up through the closets through the attic and into the can in the garage, with the outlets placed through out to accomodate full house vacuming. It is great. We installed while building our home that we are in now and have had the same one for 20 years and only have had to replace the beater bar attatchment once. It has great suction and have the 30 foot hose to plug into the different outlets spaced about, no dust and very easy to use. The ideal way to install it is within closet spaces because if anything ever got sucked into it then it would be easier to get to and take care of the problem. Many times if I have some lint or after brushing Baby Blessing I just lift the little outlet door and swish it goes. Very handy. Patti |
Hardwood and Tile We are in the market for a new lightweight upright vaccum. I do NOT want bagless. We have all hardwood and ceramic tile floors. Would like input on the Dyson and the Oreck XL users that have used their vaccums on hardwood. |
This IS a great thread!   I have a Rainbow that I absolutley LOVE. It sucks up EVERYTHING. I would like to get something that I can use for "in between" my reg vac schedule that is lighter AND easy to store. Rainbows are great, but a hassle to get out for a small quick clean-up. I had a small CHEAP upright and it lasted about 4 months..... the rotating brush stopped spinning, and it smells like rubber burning when it tried to rotate. I am going to check out an ORECK and a DYSON..... they both sound like good choices. Thanks! |
I have a rainbow vaccum, it is bagless and uses water. Very surprised with how well it picks up as well. |
I love my dyson (purple, animal) I have had mine for 2years & totally love it. No other vac has the power of the dyson that I have owned. It is totally worth the money!!!!!! |
"Vacumn Cleaner Fanatic Here" I have a real sickness for vacumn cleaners. I have owned probably every brand made. Seems like my Rainbow was the greatest, until they came out with the Purple Dyson. Only downfall with it, is changing the setting from hard floors to carpet. I like to just keep on going without stopping. Other than than, it's the best I have ever owned. |
LOVE my Dyson Animal! Quote:
Oh - we also have a lot of wood/ceramic floors - it does a great job on those as well! Hubby has allergies and it's got a fantastic filter that you never have to replace but can if you want. Bought mine at Kohl's with a coupon and at their big sale - got it fairly cheap. Best vaccuum I've ever owned! |

Any reason to select one over the other as far as the DC14, DC15, or the DC17? I know the 15 is a ball -- is it really easier to maneuver? What about the difference between the 14 and 17? Any idea? I did the comparison on the Dyson site and it does not look like a lot of difference but the 14 does not show a motorized brush bar and the other two do. The 17 does not have airflow tools and the other two do. The 17 does not have "large debris channel" while the other two do. Different Root Cyclone technology. That is not much to show a difference between models. I was going to try to just order on line, but I may have to go look and feel them in person to be sure. |
I also have the Dyson over here in England.I must say it is the best vacuum cleaner I have had.:D |
For all of you that think you can't have a Dyson because it's bagless and you won't be able to handle the emptying of the container, I really think it's because you may not be aware of how the emptying is done. Take a look at this page... http://www.dyson.com/range/feature_f...vtype=pagelink ... then click on the words "Hygienic and quick to empty" on the left for a short video on how the emptying really works. I have never had any dust to fly out of the trashcan whenever I empty my canister before. And I never have to actually touch the bottom of the canister like the lady in the video does either....just use the ground to close the bottom of the canister if you don't want to touch it and possibly get any dust on your hands. That's what I do! :) I just didn't want anyone to assume that because the Dyson is a bagless vacuum that they couldn't own one. I really think it's possible. I too have allergies and I LOVE my Dyson. |
Wow! SO much input! K I've had a Kirby for years-I think it is the 4th generation model. Very heavy. I like it because I can shampoo my carpets though and thats pretty simple and nice too. I went out and bought the Dyson DC17-So far I love it! I have short carpet, shag carpet, tile and hardwood floor in my house! There is a button at my fingertips that turns the beaters off for my hardwood floors! The attachment hose is my favorite though!! All you do is pull the hose up and out! No taking the machine apart and attaching the hose, etc! It is so handy-love this part! Also with this new model you do not have to touch the canister when you empty, therefor you are not leaning down next to the dust when you empty it. The release is on top at your fingertips! So far...LOVE this Dyson! Oh and I got mine at Sears-I have 90 days to return it and of course they will price match any store! |
Hey Breny -- did you get your Dyson? I did, based on all the recommendations here (even though hubby was armed with a Consumer Reports that held another brand at the top). I bought the Dyson DC17 Animal. Best Buy was out of them but they did have it sent to my house. They said they had just had a run on them. I told them it was probably all the YT folks recommending it. She probably thought I was a nut. Anyway....this is the best vacuum I have ever used! I have had a lot of different ones. I used to love my Oreck but it has seen better days. I've had Kirby, Hoover, Eureka, and this inhome system -- Dyson beats them all. The Dyson feels like a self propelled the way that beater bar takes off. And what this thing picked up! I can't believe all that was in my carpet! Lots of carpet fuzz and dog hair. I knew my old one was not doing well but never knew all that was being left. I got lots of sand out of the carpet too. So, if you have not decided yet, I would add another vote for the Dyson! |
Wow! Thanks for the report. I'm saving right now and I want the Dyson for sure!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm on a mission to try and find the best deal. Boy they are expensive! The animal is even more and so is the one with the ball? Thanks for letting me know you love it !!!! Quote:
