Pitbulls BANNED in Ontario I live in Toronto, Ontario and am quite happy that they finally passed a law to ban pitbulls in the Province. Basically, the law allows current pitbull owners to keep their pets but they must be spayed/neutered, always have a mussel on when outdoors and they may not be breeded. Too many people and animals have been attacked, and some killed, by these dogs. Just last night on the news, a woman was walking her chihuahua when two pitbulls came out of someones lawn and one grabed the chihuahua's stomach and the other its head and ripped the poor pup to it's death :( Some people say "it's not the the breed, it's the owner", no matter what the case is these digs appear to be more vicious than other breeds so I support this ban |
Many breeds CAN be vicious. They are bred for protection. HOWEVER, it really is up to responsible breeders and even more responsible owners to keep these dogs under control. Unfortunately, most do not. In fact, I had a neighbor once who specifically encouraged the vicious side of her dogs. Said she liked a "macho" dog. Her dogs killed every cat in the neighborhood, as well as my ferret. They ran free and terrorized everyone. When she lived with us for a year, my grandaughter got a Pit Bull/Brittany Spaniel outcross. He was the sweetest, smartest, most loving cuddler! He accepted Pogo as the Alpha Dog and never gave us a problem. But he also had LOTS AND LOTS of loving attention and training. |
I agree with ChristineMozart . I also live in Mississauga, Ontario not far from Toronto but when I did live there. So many owners let their big dogs go free and run wild. I remember running from dogs in order to not get bitten or mauled. Some owner enjoy tormenting animals and thinking it a way of showing they have power or something. The dog they let run wild in my old neighborhood was called misery. That name should say it all. It never looked fed or washed. And we children always had to be on the look out for him. I'm heard that these dogs were breaded for dog fighting. I don't know how much of that is true. I 'm just glad they have done something about it. To be honest I always stay on the opposite side of the road or get away from owners that have dogs of that nature. I know they are not all bad, but it is not a chance I'm willing to take. I had a near incident when I had my old Maltese Missy and the dog lunged at her. The owner could not even control her dog that was way to big for her to handle anyway. I'm glad missy did not get hurt. Sorry for the long post... But I'm really glad they did something about it here and now owners have to be responsible. |
oh cool! I'm also in Mississauga! I just put Toronto because I just moved from there over a year ago and no one except people in Southern Ontario know where Mississauga is, and since it's Toronto neighbor, might as well say Toronto ;) |
HA,HA , that so funny. I do that to sometime as no one but torontoian's know where mississauga is. Nice to have a neihbour on-line. ;) |
Wow, that rule makes sense. It's not totally eliminating the breed, but setting strict rules. When a dog can KILL a child (as well as other dogs), you know there's a problem there. The muzzle rule should really be in effect in many more cities, a pitbull attack is just horrifying! |
