Am I a terrible person???? 2 Attachment(s) About 2 weeks ago a stray dog came to my house. She was sooo skinny but a very pretty and sweet dog and we called her Penny. She got along with my golden retriever and lab great. They would play all day and they even slept together in their dog house. We thought about keeping her but she was vey rough with our yorkie Hannah, she is a big dog and she would paw Hannah and try to sit on her. She was also destroying things in my neighbors yards. She broke and destroyed 7 of my landscape lights. If anyone left anything out she would bring it to my yard. The fed ex man left a paackage on one of my neighbors porch and she brought it to me. So we decided she had to go. We tried to give her away but no one we knew wanted her. So we took her to the animal shelter yesterday. The man there said he thought she was so pretty and that she wouldn't be there long before someone adopted her. I sponsered her so they can't put her to sleep, she can stay there until she is adopted. I feel so bad though. I just keep thinking about the look in her eyes when we left her there. Am I terrrible? Has anyone else been in this situation? There were so many sweet beautiful dogs and puppies and cats and kittens there. It made me feel so gulity that I paid so much money for my other dogs and they are dogs there that would love to find a home and if they don't find a home they are put to sleep. Here are some pics. |
No I think you did the right thing :) she'll get a good home and I hope they keep you updated:) |
No you are not. A few months ago my dog TITO died. He was a boxer. I loved him. Anyway after he died a lady from my husbands work gave us a dog. She had been kept on a farm and was about 6 months old she didnt even have a name yet. So we named her COCOA well she was very protective and didnt like other dogs. We couldnt even take her to petsmart or have people over she would growl at them and we didnt want to have to keep her outside all the time. So we decided to find her another home. I felt bad at first and still do I guess I think what if they are mean to her maybe she would have been better off being outside here at my house. I love her and I hope she is doing well. |
You fed her, got her healthy looking and sponsored her so she will be taken care of until the right family comes along. Maybe there is a little boy right now, ruff and ready, just hoping to find a dog like Penny. Check in a couple of weeks and she will probably already be at her new home. You did well by her! |
Awww...don't feel bad...she is not getting along with your dogs and since you are sponsoring her, she will be on her way to a good home very soon. |
No, your definitely NOT a horrible person! Go read the thread about the dog put in the freezer. Now those people on that thread are horrible people!! Or the people recently on our news who didn't want 7 puppies, and put them in a dumpster. They were found, but not before 2 died. Those are horrible people. You are a caring individual, wish there were more of those around!! |
No, you aren't bad. Obviously you are a caring person or you wouldn't feel guilty. You did more than a lot of people would have done. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that I wondered where they got it. It said, "Don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die". It really got to me. I probably could have supported a small shelter for a month with what I paid for Little Bit. And the money I waste on "things" for her could feed so many dogs/cats. But let's face it the "things" we buy are usually not for them. I bought Little Bit 2 new beds yesterday. She went on strike and refused to touch them. Went & laid in the bathroom by herself which she never does. When I gave up & put her old bed back she was so happy. I'm afraid if we were truly animal lovers, we'd use our resources more wisely.:( |

Camden is one of the worst cities in our country for homeless and horribly abused animals - their shelter is full and they need money all the time due to the largely poor population. I know I've only read about this on the net but what I saw made me sick - genie - I hope that dog finds a home - I had to do something not quite the same but reported a neighbors dog and he was surrendered to the shelter - I felt SO guilty but he was a big dog and I think an outside dog - he SO deserved better and I did hear he found a good home from the Houston Animal Cops..... this was what I reported :( :( :( - I had to climb my fence to take this picture and the others are too graphic....I don't want to upset you - but sometimes we NEED To use the shelter facilities...I KNOW this baby was curled up ready to die - My Chanel is the one who Alerted him to me by barking like crazy at the fence...I had no idea he was in this kind of shape till the day I took this picture :( :( :( |
Don't feel bad. She was beautiful. and you did the right thing by taking her in in the first place. we had a dog, Lindsey, when I was younger. She used to run away every single day. and every single day the dog catcher would take her to the pound, and my parents would have to pay $45 to get her out. Obviously, it got way too expensive. So one day they decided that she had to stay there because they just couldn't afford getting her out anymore, and there was absolutly no way to stop her from running. She wasn't put to sleep either, a family adopted her. :) V - that picture is so sad. :( and Camden is a HORRIBLE city. It's about 20-30 minutes away from me. We went there once for a class trip (to the aqarium) and just driving through I saw so many stray dogs it's unbelievable. Broke my heart. |
You have been fantastic enough to sponser her and this prevents her from being destroyed which is more than most would do! So good on you! |
You did the right thing! And, perhaps the fact that you started this thread will get someone thinking about adopting from a shelter... |
