food day with mardi gras theme We are having a food day at work with a mardi gras theme. Does anyone have an easy but fantastic idea for me? I have to feed about 20 folks. |
Definitely do the King cake......most bakeries make them - make sure they add the baby to them! How about shrimp gumbo, rice and beans, that flaming fosters (is that the flaming bananas?) - I am trying to remember some of the food we have eaten at Mardi Gras parties! |
Def. shrimp gumbo, although a king cake would be less inexpensive (considering you have to supply for 20 people) and easier. If you can't find a king cake somewhere, I am pretty sure you could find one for mail order. |
Red Beans 'N Rice--the traditional New Orleans meal. Cheap to make, and it is easy. Soak the beans overnight and follow the recipe on the back of the beans package. Serve with garlic bread and a salad. i was born in N.O. and grew up in southern Louisiana. Everyone thinks of gumbo, etouffee, or shrimp creole when they think of New Orleans, but most people from there would say red beans and rice is the signature dish. Make sure you use "small red beans"--it's not the same as kidney beans. |
My fave is Dirty Rice. The Zatarain's mix:laugh: I use ground chicken and a little garlic and parmesan sausage in mine, YUMMY! |
umm for a mardi gras party i say king cake thats the main mardi gras thing! |
