Fever Blister/Cold Sore?? I need help.... My DH who has been very sick, now has two sore on his lips - I guess they are fever blisters. What is the best thing to use for them....I know there is Abreva and Campho stuff. Is there anything natural oils that would help? --what I would really want to use, if there is anything! If you get them, what do you use or have used? |
Anyone?? Should he got to the doctor? |
Well i only use Abreva..that really works for me..I wouldn't go to the doctor for that because they will just tell you to let them dry.. |
To let them dry?? Ummm, I figured that would make them worse. I need to google cures for this and see......if not, off to get Abreva! I wonder why he got them....is it because he was so sick? he said that maybe it was because of his fever? But I don't know??? |
My son-in-law gets them sometimes and he says Abreva works pretty good. I have re-occuring ones on my nose (not a pretty site) and I take prescription Valtrex for them - but you don't need a prescription unless they are really really bad. |

I think they are pretty contagious when open sores so just be careful and they say not to put hands to eyes etc.. I think you can use essential oils too to help like Oregano, myrrh, thyme, tea tree etc..any anti viral property essental herbs. St. Johns wart etc.. Also Lysine is really good for prevention and healing. My best friend suffers from these and it is usually from stress. |
Buy a bottle of Lysine...they're a supplement type thing...you can find it in the vitamin section. They get rid of cold sores so fast! When I get a cold sore, I take one a few times a day and they are gone in a couple days time! Much cheaper than abreva too! |
Abreva I always get them when I'm getting sick and out of everything that I've tried, abreva works the best. It's a bit expensive for a tiny tube but they should dry up in a few days if you use it multiple times a day. When I feel one coming on I start to use abreva and it prevents it from becoming a full blown cold sore. Abreva is good stuff      |
I tried to ignor this thread , but it kept popping up just like a cold sore. and I get them from just looking at people who have them I think. lol any ways I get them when Im sick I use L Zone-3 and it helps dry them up very fast. |
I think that abreva works pretty good, but if you can get your doctor to prescribe you zovirax capsules it works GREAT. I work in a emergency room and one day I was getting a fever blister and the doc I was working with wrote me a rx for it and I took 2 pills and it ws gone. So everytime I start to get one or anyone in my family starts to get one we just take a few doses of zovirax and it stops it before it gets bad. As you probably know zovirax is a herpes medication and a fever blister is a herpes virus also and it works great. Also something I learned at a class I had about disease transmission recently is that a fever blister can transmit herpes to the genital area if there is direct contact...that is all I am going to say. |
My MIL told me to use witch hazel.. I guess you can get it at the vitamin store.. I've personally never tried it. But I get them pretty often for some reason. Abreva really only works well if you start using it RIGHT when you start to feel it coming on. |

My best friend swears by L-Lysine (I think that's how it's "worded"). As soon as you feel a "tingle" (you'll know the feeling if you are prone to getting them), start taking it. I hear it's safe in pretty large doses every once in a while. I'm assuming this stuff works once you already have one also. |
My boyfriend will get them and I read online to use the Lysine of course and everyone knows about Abreva but to dry them I have made him a Epsom salt concoction and put it on a cotton ball to dry it up assuming the sore has already shown up..if it hasn't come up yet he will use the Abreva in addition to taking Lysine and Vit C...seems to help them not come up. He is prone to them when he gets overheated...and stressed out. |
