Superstar Flat Iron - Silver Nano OK, I just got this flat iron in today! Silver Nano Superstar I have never used a flat iron before. I got it b/c I wanted to make nice waves or curls. NO CLUE how to do this. I guess I have to watch the DVD that came with it. I did turn the heat up to 420 and it did make nice root volume. My hair is straight already, so I don't think I will be using it as a typical straightener though... One question - hopefully someone can answer. I bought this Brand New, Never Opened from a very reputable seller on e-bayer. Before I ask him, maybe someone here can answer this - about ANY FLAT IRON: In the close position, the very end is tight - BUT I have to press harder down to make the middle and lower end (near the handle) clamp down tight. Does this make sense??? Is this how they are? Or should the 'whole' flat iron part clamp down evenly with minimal pressure? :confused: :confused: :confused: |
It should be the same from tip to handle. Maybe it's defective and the seller will replace it? I got a Conair one at Walmart for like $40 (it was the best one there) and it PULLS my hair out, a strand here and there:mad: OUCH! |
I have a nice ceramic Hot Tools one (It was like $50?) and it is pretty even all the way across. It is the "V" version as opposed to the scissors version. My first one was the Conair one and it also pulled my hair out. The Hot Tools one does not. |
I just e-mailed the seller with my question. I need to know if when you apply normal pressure to seal the flat iron, is the entire flat iron suppose to seal tight. Because mine the very end does. But I must apply a little tighter pressure to get the middle and other end to seal tight. Just with the 'normal' pressure my hair slides out the middle and other end, b/c there is a slight space...I don't know if this makes any sense??? |
Babyliss makes THE BEST flat irons and hairdryers. but.. they are ridiculously expensive. I straighten my hair everyday, so it was worth the money. For flat irons - make sure you are getting one with ceramic plates NOT metal plates! Cheaper irons WILL catch your hair and cause breakage - investing a little more $ in a good iron will save your hair! I recommend a spray to use on your hair to protect it from the heat of the flat iron - it also helps to KEEP the hair straight - if you're like me and have curly/wavy hair, humidity is NOT your friend and these sprays can help keep your hair smooth and sleek. I've been straightening my poor hair for YEARS, but my hairstylist is always amazed at how healthy it looks, so I must be doing something right! Anyways, just wanted to add my 2 cents on flat irons - they're great when you can find a good one! |
I have a ceramic flat iron that was like $40 - can't think of the brand at the moment. It's black... I think it's ConAir??? It has never pulled any of my hair out, and I straighten it every day. I've had it for 3 or 4 years and it's still going strong! So I personally just can't justify spendind $100+ for a straightener. :eek: |

Every girl I know owns one of these including my friends that work in salons. They smooth the hair so it will seal your ends making the hair nice and shiny, and yes they apply even pressure across. I have funky wavy curly hair but you would never know I think i put a pic here so u have see. I have the lighter color hair but my girlfriend also uses a chi! |
I got one from ebay also. It was supposed to be one that retails for 250.00. I got a ripped off!! My flat iron does the same thing, I have to hold it tightly. The one I got from Walmart pulls my hair out also. You really have to read the ebay wording closely. |

I do hair and you can get a good one for less money but make sure it has a temp gadge so you can select the temp you want.the one i have is the curlmaster ceramics one if you have short hair get a a skinny one and the loneger your hair the wider you can use. also the flatter the better. pic 1 is fat one pic 2 is flat one |

Thanks everyone for your opinions...Although, no one has yet been able to answer my original question...:D :D :D However, the seller just answered me: I understand what you are saying, and how it might seem that there is something wrong with it. That is normal for the iron though. You will notice that the plates have a little bit of play in them, and that is so you can really clamp hard on the hair, yet the pressure will be evenly distributed on the plates. So, I guess it is normal! But, Like I said, I have nothing to compare it to. Anyone????? :confused: |
