Help! Dry Skin! The last few days my lips and the backs of my hands are so dry/chapped they feel like they are burning. I have tried regular chap stick and lotions and it is not helping the stinging and burning. Can anyone recommend anything for some relief? Thanks. |
Mine have been like that also. I think it is the weather.I can put lotion on and an hour later they are so dry . |
I used the have the same problems. Try Burt's Bees Hand Salve. It is the best! It started getting better after only a couple of applications. A little goes a long way. If you go on the website, it'll let you enter your zip code and tell you where you can find it. I love all Burt's Bees products. |
Thank you, Kyle. I have seen this product around but have never tried it. I bet they have a good lip product too. I will definitely check into it. |

Are there different kinds of lip stuff? If so which would you recommend? I can't wait to go find some tomorrow. Thanks. |
I LOVE Burt's Bees stuff!!! We like the Handcream Beeswax & Banana!!! YUMMY! My doctor recommended getting a soft toothbrush, putting some vasoline on it and brushing in a circular motion around your lips - this helps keep them moist and smooth, etc. --course, do not use your normal toothbrush for this! **it is better then smearing on tons of chapstick all day - which they say actually dries your skin out even more!!** He also recommended using vasoline at night on areas that are extra dry. We will do our feet and hands and then put on those "spa" gloves/socks. I heard other people swear by baby oil too. I don't know though. We keep lotion on all the time! I have bottles everywhere! The oatmeal ones are good for very dry and itchy skin. There is also a newer olive oil one out too (haven't tried it though). I like cocoa butter - it smells yummy! Also, you are not suppose to take a HOT shower when it is colder/dry air. That is said to make your skin even drier. Hope this helps! |
at night I rub Bag Balm on my hands and feet. It's not the most pleasant smelling, but it really works great. |
I agree the burt bees is great. also for extremely dry skin (due to weather i'm guessing cause mine is like that too). Aquaphor! it's THEEEE best.. :D |
What is Aquaphor? Where do you get it. Kyle, I see your lip balm recommendation - "Lifeguard lip balm". I didn't notice before. Thanks. |

Aquaphor is like vasaline basically.. but the good stuff.. dermatologist recommended because it's non comedogenic or something.. i don't know. my husband has it and i use it and it works! you can buy it anywhere really.. sav-ons, cvs, target, walmart etc. |
First I would recommend you drink more water. I've been told that drinking more water will hydrate you, as sometimes dryness is a sign of dehydration. Lips drying is more so a sign, but for hands and feet I use Hemp lotion. It's awesome. |

I was gonna say "Aquaphor is great" also and then saw that you mentioned it. This was the one thing that got us through the baby stages. On my pediatrician's recommendation and after trying the samples he gave us, I bought a tub of this stuff. My kids are now 12 and 10 but we still occasionally use this for dry chapped cheeks and bad chapped lips. What we used it for when they were little was diaper rashes and chapped face (from drooling and weather changes and such). I tell every new mother I know about this stuff. One girl at work almost cried when it worked for her baby. Hers had a diaper rash that was so severe that it was almost bleeding. Nothing she tried was working. After 24-48 hours after starting the Aquaphor, it was almost completely healed. It's amazing! My mom uses it on her severely chapped lips also. Yes, it looks just like Vaseline so that kinda throws people off but it's more of a "medicated Vaseline". If you can't find it on the pharmacy shelf, ask the pharmacist. A lot of times they have it behind the counter because they use it as a base for making some medications. |
I use Rosebud Salve on my lips and LOVE it :) Also every night I put Vaseline on my hands then put socks on my hands for about an hour while I'm watching tv. Rinse them in cool (not hot) water and they feel a lot better. Hot water is extremely drying so my dermatologist told me to stop showering in scalding water (I like my water hot) and use luke-warm water instead. It's helping quite a bit. |

Make sure you look online if you are unsure if a place has it, because some places (like CVS) only carry a few of the products while others carry a bigger variety. I had a somewhat of a hard time finding the hand salve. |
