Tofu....anyone?? I had bought some Tofu before the snow/ice hit and I am wanting to make something with it today. There are soooo many recipes out there - I have searched online for a long time - whew - Does anyone have any tried and true (yummy) recipes that uses Tofu? Looking for a good healthy and yummy one - I have Firm Tofu. Thanks so much! |
I haven't used any of the recipes yet but I have a tofu cookbook I can look through for you if you want...just let me know. |
Let me know how it turns out and what recipe you used. I'm a vegetarian and I've tried to make a Tofu dish many times. But it never turns out. I just don't like the taste of it. |
I just read on several sites that tofu doesn't "taste" - it is how you cook it and what spices are soaked into it that gives it the taste??? Says "No one can say tofu tastes bad - it simply has no taste at all. Tofu takes on the flavors of whatever spices or flavorings you use with it. In fact, a good rule of thumb is to increase spices and seasonings by one-half whenever using tofu." I don't know though, this is my first time to buy any. I guess I will find out though! |
I use Tofu all the time....I'm about to go to class but I'll post a few recipes when I come back =) |
A couple of good dog recipe books are *Real Food For Dogs* by Arden Moore & Ann Davis *Barkers Grub* by Rudy Edalati Here are a couple of nice recipes: Http://www.seefido.com/html/dog_tofu...oaf_recipe.htm http://earthsave.ca/articles/ethics/..._and_dogs.html |

I don't really have recipes, I use it in place of meat. Like in spaghetti, I use it instead of hamburger, it absorbs the tomato sauce. I love it in chinese dishes with lots of veggies and a good sauce. |
is this for your dog or you i thought you then someone said something about dogs?? |
I don't think the original request was for dog recipes - but someone posted a link to some doggie dishes, I think! :p |
That's funny, but I like those links anyway! --Hey, Mojo might like tofu too??!! ((hee, hee)) Quote:

yum, I love Tofu, I like it plain warmed up with soy sauce. But I prefer the soft form of tofu. Have you tried the flavor kind of tofu. They sell them at most groceries like Trader Joe's has some. I slice it up , put it in my salad, and yummy! Try stir frying the firm form of tofu with fresh veggies and add tons of flavor since it's quite bland on it's own. also try www.foodnetwork.com maybe they might have recipes Keep in mind, it's one of those foods that you grow to like. I grew up with it so it's yummy to me, my hubby didn't. He absolutely hated it the first few times, then it got tolerable, then now he doesn't mind eating it. hopefully we will get to the love stage. |
I LOVE Tofu and eat it all the time in salads but my favorite is to stir fry it with vegetables, soy sauce and teriyaki sauce. Now I'm hungry! I know a lot of people that really don't like it because of the texture but I love it :) |
I read your post and the first thing that came to my mind was yuck! I went to Japan a couple of years ago and one of the places that we went to was a tofu house. They had something like 30 different tofu meals. Since, there was a bunch of us we ordered a lot of different ones and passed them around. I couldn't find any that I really liked. Quote:

Just thought I'd throw in the doggie recipes too.:p I sometimes scramble eggs and tofu together for my girls, and I will put some in their veggies. |
That doggie recipe sounds kind of like one that I have for humans - it is scrambled eggs w/ spinach, tofu and cheese. - it sounds good, but I eat spinach in my eggs, when I eat eggs - yum! - you can't even taste the spinach! The tofu I have is firm...I didn't make any yesterday because I just couldn't find any good recipes for it, that I wanted at the time. I wanted to put it on salad, but didn't know if I should just cut it up and toss it in, or if I should season it or what? I might just have the eggs w/ tofu today for lunch! HA! |
If you try it please let us know how it turns out. I made beef strogonoff (sp?) once and substituted firm tofu for the beef. Honestly it was really gross. We couldn't even eat it. Even though it was firm, the texture reminded me of eggs so maybe putting it in eggs would be a perfect match. I'd love to like tofu but I haven't given it another chance. If your egg dish is good, I think I'll have to try it again. |
We have a favorite resturant that serves three different Asian foods and they use tofu in some. One that I especially like is wonton soup with sprouts and fried tofu. I wonder if there may be a cook book out that gives only tofu recipes? |

I sprayed my skillet w/ some olive oil (I put my olive oil and canola oil in spray bottles now - that way, I don't use that much). I did 2 whole eggs and 3 egg whites (some are now saying the whole egg is good for you and others are still saying just do the whites). I put some frozen spinach in it (use to do fresh, but w/ the recent scare of fresh spinach, we started buying frozen) and I cut up quiet abit of my tofu and tossed it in there while everything was all cooking together. I used my pepper mill for some freshly ground black pepper and my new sea salt grinder too! Served w/ a slice of 100% whole wheat bread and it was WONDERFUL!!! Couldn't even taste the tofu at all! I guess it really does take on the flavor of the other ingredients. I have to be honest, I told myself that I would not taste it or smell it before I ate it. So I didn't - I guess I was afraid it would be gross! Anyway, we loved it! Nikki, you might have to try it this way - if you don't like spinach, you don't have to add it, but it was yummy!!! |
I am definitely going to try this. I LOVE spinach so as long as you can't taste the tofu, I'll love it. Thanks for posting the review!:) |

I wanted to add: my daughter didn't even know I had put tofu in it, until she was taking out the trash and seen the container. She was like "are you have tofu for lunch?" - I told her that we already had some! She couldn't believe it! She is like my husband, a very picky eater.....so, if she ate it and liked it and didn't even notice....I think you would like it too. Let me know if you try it and how you like it! Still on the hunt for some good tofu recipes too! |
Another great use for tofu! Since I had it open and am wanting to add it to my regular "diet", I thought of another way to use it on my salad today for lunch. I sprayed a small skillet w/ olive oil - I ground up some whole wheat crackers (the low sodium kind) - mixed in some garlic powder and freshly ground black pepper - I cut the tofu into chunks and breaded them w/ the mixture. Put them in the skillet until they were browned and added them to my salad! Wow! Were they good! My daughter thought they were croutons until she bit into one and discovered that they were soft not hard. She liked them!!! YUMMY! I might try w/ different spices too.....just thought I would share. |
