Tears for Lori, the greyhound... Beginning of the end..... I hate to be a "downer"..but I think my aging greyhound may be starting to fade. She is 13 1/2 year old retired racer and just the greatest dog... ....she has been failing now for over a year. But this AM I noticed she was a bit wobbly and staggered a bit. She made it down the stairs and outside...then made it back up the stairs and seemed to eat nearly her whole breakfast....but she just seems different today..... I have pain meds and fluid pills and some other stuff. I intend to keep her comfy and happy as long as she seems like she is ok....just waiting for her to tell us "the right time". Does anyone know of a good "greyhound-chat-forum"??? I thought I would be ready for this but just typing these words have made me cry for her. When she does pass-on ...the vet wants to do an 'autopsy' to see what the huge mass is in her belly....we never have been able to figure it out. (we opted not to go to all the specialists because of her age and other health issues....she would NEVER survive any surgery). Thanks for listening!!!!! |
So sorry for your Greyhound . I'll ask my neighbor about Greyhound forum , maybe he knows one because he recently adopted two adorable Greyhounds from a rescue Greyhound Organization . |
Sorry to hear about your greyhound :( Have you had her all her life?? If I could have a big dog that is the kind I would get. I think they are beautiful. I wish I could say something to make you feel better :( |
We got Lori 8+ years ago...she is a retired racer, from a track in Alabama....now famous for their horrible treatment and cruelty to the dogs. She was with them for 5 years, so she was a great racer....tracks usually 'retire' dogs by 18 months to 2 years if not "profitable".... I did find a great forum....."Greytalk.com"....much like YT...but of course all about greyhounds. I just spent a good while there with a little intro and bio.....before it is too late. Later this weekend, when I feel more like it, I will go back and ask a few questions about other peoples experiences with the "final days' stuff....just sooooo hard. I would HIGHLY RECCOMMEND anyone (who can) have one of these gentle dogs in their lives and hearts. They are just the BEST!!!! And there are soooo many looking for a home everyday.....If you think all the talk about 'puppy-mills' is tough to hear...just try listening to the horrors from the racing track. NOT ALL TRACKS.....and NOT EVERY DOG....but much too many!!! Thanks for the encouragement....... P.S. Lil Bit and Apple have been especially "good" the past 2 days.....they know things aren't 'right'..... |
Lori the greyhound  I'm so sorry to hear that it's possibly the end for your poor dog. I know what you mean about them letting you know when it's time. I just know in my heart that when I finally took my 17 year old doxie, Nando in that it was the right time. I could not bear it if I'd waited till he was in pain or had some type of attack. Good Luck to you! |
