I've got a lump in my armpit... I've been getting lumps in my armpits for a few months. They always go away but yesterday I got one that is very big. They are mostly painless but this one I just got kind of hurts, feels sort of bruised. They are definitely underneath my skin. Any medical experts here that might know what it is? Or any other women experience this? I've been calling my doctor all morning but it seems they are not opened yet. I'm getting paranoid and I hope I don't have breast cancer. I am only 19 :(. |
It could be a hair folicle that is infected . my armpits are really sensitive and sometime after i shave i get the lumps under my skin and a lot of the times they hurt but they do go away. i would see your doctor though just in case but it could be a follicle good luck and let us know ok |
i had that once too I also get that as well i had it last year i even went to get a mamogram just because i was horrified and they didnt see anything in the mamogram or the sonogram. The doctor said it could just be a mass of fat Not a cyst but sometimes when you either gain weight suddenly the fat does not distrubute itself and it turns into a ball. I have one right now and i am waiting till next week to make another appointment i would tell you to go and have a mamogram done just to be on the safe side. Although it might be harmless you would never want to ignore something like that. Good luck |
I'm no expert but I used to get bumps all the time along my bikini line. Not just the red bumps everyone gets but big painful lumps. The dermatologist called it foliculitis (sp?) and gave me a topical antibiotic. At the time I only got bikini waxes in the summer and shaved the rest of the year - and I noticed I never had the problem when I waxed. So I just stopped shaving it and started getting bikini waxes instead. It's expensive but the bumps were very painful so it's worth it. I would suggest seeing a dermatologist. Your general physician may just send you to one anyway. |
read this :D http://www.webmd.com/hw/raising_a_family/aa65823.asp |
It could be your lymph nodes. Mine occasionally feel sore if I am sick or around that time of the month. |

I am certainly far from being an expert but, I have been told that a cancerous lump DOES NOT have pain...I don't know how true this is but, this is what i've been told... Also....when was the last time you shaved? I have gotten sore little lumps under my arm a few days after shaving...doesn't happen all of the time...this has happened to my daughters before also...is it red? I would apply hot compressess to it.. I hope everything is ok...let us know Sending good thoughts out to you |
my mom had gotten one of those a while back, and it looked bruised and then it started to look black and she went to the doctor and they told her it was a boil under her skin, but i cant remember what she said caused it. |

To answer other's questions, it is not red when I look at it in the mirror it just looks like raised skin. I know it is not an ingrown hair because I've gotten those before and I normally just take care of those myself. I don't shave my armpits anymore..sounds weird but I pluck them lol because I don't have the $$ to get them waxed so I haven't had a problem w/ ingrown hairs for a while. The lumps I've had before were painless but this one only feels a slight pain when I push down hard on it, not to the point where I will squinch and say ow. The ones I had before also never turned a different color and they were much smaller than this one. My doctor is unfortunately not in today and she is closed on Wednesdays so I will have to wait till Thursday. Thanks for all your input and kind words. |
Can you tell if it's under the skin, or over? If it's over, it's probably a boil, or infected follicle. If it's under, it could be swollen lymph nodes, fatty deposits, or cysts. I'd check with your doctor to be sure. |
We must of posted at the same time. ;) |

BTW- you say it hurts when you "push down hard on it"? So don't push hard on it~! LOL! (That's what my doctor always says when I complain that something hurts when I "push on it". |

good luck even though it sounds exactly like what i had a bump and no irritation no ingrown hairs or none of that just a lump and it goes away maybee he will send you to have a mamogram just to be safe tell him to do a sonogram they did that too me as well but with the mamogram is more clearer for them. Good Luck! |
I found something similar to what you are describing many years ago and had it checked out. There is a history of lymphoma in my family so I was very concerned and understand how you are feeling. I actually went to see a specialist to be sure (referred by my GP) - turned out to be nothing - just my own muscle. I would see your regular dr. when you can. |
I still say it's an ingrown hair...I have gotten these before...I would use hot compresses on it..I bet you will notice it going down if you do this.. |
I used to have a bump under my right underpit and I went to the doctor and she gave my some antibiotics and it went away. I didn't finish taking the antibiotics so it didn't go away completely and I still have a little bump but the size got smaller, it would get REALLY big sometimes and hurt and I thought it was a razor bump or something but since it got really big I was concerned. She said it was nothing to worry about and that it was called a Lymphno or something like that...I forgot. But she said it's common. I need to go back to get more antibiotics, its the only one I got though, ever. |
I had a lump in my armpit once and the doctor said he wasn't concerned because it was visible and so easily felt. He said he would be much more concerned if he had to really dig to feel it. He figured mine was an infected follicle or something like that. It went away on it's own. I hope you get good news at the doctor! |
I ended up not going to the doctor today bc I had to pick Stanley up from the hospital and I had to wait an hour just to get him. I have to wait until Thursday to go. I know it's definitely not an ingrown hair because I've had them before when I used to shave, they are a lot more painful. This bump is dime sized, I'm thinking it's just a swollen lymph node, but I've had at least 2 more these past few months and I'm never sick...ahh guess we'll wait and see :). |
i know what you mean Quote:
keep me posted cause i have to go next week too to get a mamogram my doctor reffered me since i had it before he said it does not feel strange but he wants me to be sure so i will let you know how mine turns out too |

lumps You say they come and go...and this one hurts..then I say a lymph gland inflammation caused by an infection in that area..BUT since I did not get my medical degree, it is always good for the MD to have "look,see"...best wishes |
