Jenn218 12-19-2006 08:05 AM

Ummmmm, I am thinking??!! There are lots of good recipes out there. You could always go to a bakery or somewhere (or even a frozen one) and put it in one of your dishes and call it your own! HA!
Do you have any ideas what you might be thinking of making??

Cheska's Bella 12-19-2006 08:11 AM

My desserts are all pretty standard...

But my favorite standard one is a Jello Cake. Where you bake the cake and then when it cools put jello (still liquified) into holes you poked throughout, and then chill, and top with whip cream. It's super easy and tastes oh-so-good!

ytsirk27 12-19-2006 08:14 AM

my SIL makes that and dirt dessert...im wanting something to knock her socks off...HA!! I love to cook and bake..and im pretty darn good at it if i say so myself.....i dont want anything wierd..LOLOL

chloeandj 12-19-2006 08:18 AM

Ok, I won't give the chocolate one because it is with pudding too and you don't want too similar so here is the pumpkin one. We call it pumpkin cake but it's not cake. It's like pumpkin pie but you crumble yellow cake mix on top and bake it and it's so sweet and GOOD you can only eat a little because it's so rich.
INGREDIENTS
6 eggs, lightly beaten
1 29 oz. can of pumpkin
1 1/2 cups usgar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
2 cups evaporated milk

TOPPING INGREDIENTS
1 Yellow cake mix
1 cube of butter

DIRECTIONS
Mix all ingredients together, accept for the topping ingredients. Pour into a lightly buttered 9x13 pan.
Cut cake mix with the softened butter making it all crumbly. Sprinkle this lightly on top of the batter.

Bake one hour at 350.
Serve with cool whip on top.

THis has become our family favorite!

I have made something that sounds similiar, but we just call it an oreo pie or something! HA!

I will see what I have too............

I know what you mean about competition...it seems like some in our family have gotten worse about that too!

My FIL (yes, my father in law) is getting to be the worst! We all have classic cars and his is always the best OR he knows everything (thinks he does) OR he spent more of his whatever it is OR they did this or that, etc. It drives me freakin' nuts!

Then, my dear sweet sister!!!! Oh man, I don't even want to begin w/ that. Years ago, I bought a car, then she had to, then years later, I bought an SUV, she bought one. She whines alot too........."I don't have the money...blah,blah", but then she will go to town and drop $200 like it was nothing - but yet, she doesn't have the money to bring food for the holidays, to buy anything for anyone..........it is crazy!

In fact, everytime I talk to her, it is complaining about something...mainly money, but her kids too. Just this week, I called to chat and be nice (I pray every night to just be civil to her), she went on the no money topic......but then, she said she was going to buy her a new razor phone and when I asked if her phone was not working, she said no, she just wanted a new phone.

Then, she got mad because I didn't really want to watch her two kids for two weeks over the holidays. I offered several days, but told her that Katelyn would want time w/ her friends (w/o little kids being there) and that my DH was taking off some too, so we would be doing stuff.........anyway, she blew a gasket, so I reminded her that I always offer to watch them WITHOUT pay and that our mother and I have told her that she needed to find someone to watch them and stop trying thinking that someone in the family can watch them. She gets soooo mad! BUT, I get mad when she takes them to our grandmothers house (almost 90) to watch them, she lives alone, she has too much to deal w/ during this time of year.......and my sister doesn't even bat an eye over it! She just thinks of yourself!!! Aurgh!

Sorry for my rambling.....................

You gotta love your family (and I do), but you don't have put up w/ their BS!

ytsirk27 12-19-2006 08:39 AM

well i just have to put up with my hubbys..

I have a REALLY good dessert and it's not difficult to make. It's a layered dessert so it looks pretty if you use parfait glasses (or you can even use wine glasses if you don't have parfait glasses.) You can layer it in a bowl, too but if you want the presentation to look nice, use glasses so you can see the layers.

It has strawberries, amaretti cookies and mascarpone cheese (sweet italian cream cheese). I'll send the recipe if you're interested

I always have a hard time finding mascarpone cheese!!! Where do you get yours???
Around here, we don't have any good places for food...just Wal-Mart, Harps, etc.

The grocery stores around me carry it but it's a bit expensive. I usually get it at an Italian grocery store near me because it's cheap there. I know that the super walmart near me does NOT sell it. It has a milder flavor than regular cream cheese so I'm not sure if you can substitute it with regular cream cheese. I usually get the amaretti cookies in the Italian grocery store, too.

ytsirk27 12-19-2006 08:51 AM

oh my.. that sounds great!:D

There is a place here in Pittsburgh called the 'strip district' that has all different ethnic food stores. They are in wharehouse type stores but they have EVERYTHING--sometimes the most obscure ingredients I can find there. My boyfriend and I love to cook and we can find almost anything in the strip but our grocery store chains (not walmart, though) sell mascarpone cheese--it's just double the price in the grocery store.

This link has substitutions for mascarpone cheese since it is difficult to find in most stores ... heck, it's probably cheaper to use the substitution...

are you any good at making cheesecake? i have an excellent chocolate cheesecake w/raspberry sauce recipe...it melts in your mouth :D

CREAMY CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE
(From A Passion for Chocolate)

Prep time 2hrs
Bake time 45 min
Chill time 4 hrs

1 1/2 cup finely crushed chocolate wafers
1/3 cup butter
4 oz semi sweet chocolate chopped
3 – 8 oz packages cream cheese softened
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
2 teaspoon vanilla
2 Tablespoon all purpose flour
3 eggs

For crust-combine crushed wafers and butter. Press evenly into the bottom and 1 3/4 inches up the sides of a 9-in springform pan. Set aside.

For filling- in a heavy saucepan melt chocolate over low heat. Remove from heat; cool. In a medium mixing bowl beat together cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add flour; beat well. Add the cooled chocolate. Add the eggs all at once, beating on low speech just until combined.

Pour filling into crust lined pan. Place pan in a shallow baking pan on oven rack. Bake in a 375˚ oven for 45-50 minutes or until center appears nearly set when shaken (center will look soft but will set up as it cools.)

Cool cheesecake in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Use small metal spatula to loosen crust from sides of pan. Cool 30 minutes more. Remove sides of pan. Cool 1 hour. Cover, chill at least 4 hours.

RASPBERRY SAUCE
In a blender container or a food processor bowl cover and blend or process one 12- oz package of frozen lightly sweetened red raspberries (thawed) on high speed until smooth. Press through a strainer to remove seeds; discard seeds. In a small saucepan stir together the raspberry puree, ? cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Bring mixture to a boil over medium-low heat. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Transfer sauce to a bowl.
