Ungrateful Teenager I am the single mother of a 14 year old boy. He is absolutely awesome around other people, but he treats me like yesterday's garbage. It's really starting to get to me. Not only am I dealing with him, but it brings back memories of how I treated my parents. Guess I'm getting it back "ten fold" as they always said. Just had to vent, thanks for listening. |
I'm sorry. Hope you feel better. I don't have kids yet but my mother has already cursed me. "I hope you have kids just like YOU":yelrotflm I'm scared :( |
I'm sorry. :( My parents ALWAYS say to me "I hope you have a kid just like YOU!" ....I plan on adopting. :p |

Dear ChestersMom, First of all, let loose of those unpleasant memories of you with your folks, and think of the good pleasant ones. Have you sought counceling, it is important to do that. Fourteen is a difficult age, maybe the two of you could go for counceling at different times and then together. Prayers for all to work out, they will. Please keep us updated on how things go. Life is just too short to harbor unpleasant memories, so hopefully you will let go of your own. Is your son into activities at school? Do you join in and participate in them? Try to work on your relationship and then build on it from there. Have you sat down with him and talked seriously about this problem? It might be a good thing to do. Wishing the best for you and your son. Patti |
Way too many teens today "just don't get it". When my 3 got a bit sassy, I would remind them that they were entitled to food, shelter, clothing, an education, and moral training. EVERYTHING else was optional and was provided because we were financially able and because I wanted to. A pinto beans, cole slaw and cornbread makes a fairly nutritionally balanced meal The unheated bonus room above the garage with a matress on the floor fulfilled the shelter requirement Goodwill and Salvation Army sells some mighty fine clothes :D They can wait in the cold rain in winter and hot rain in summer for the BIG YELLOW BUS to take them to school I am not obligated to provide computers, tv's, cable, telephones, cell phones, ipods, and will NEVER EVER provide booze, drugs OR condem's  :D  This little speech usually quietened them down for a while -- |

Amen, Sister! You have a fine head on your shoulders and a spirit filled heart. Thank you! |
Just want to encourage you to hang in there. Fourteen year old boys can be awful to deal with. If you continue to love him and be consistent and fair with your discipline, one day he will thank you. |
All right girl I have to print that and save it for my kids. They are not teens as yet but I can see how good that will go over...lol. :Love it. Quote:

Patti you are so very thoughtful and kind-hearted! You give great advice as well. Sometimes (remembering my teenage years) a heart-to-heart with no accusations is the best method. |
