Need Brainstormers Ok...first of all I have waited SOOO l.ong to finicsh up my shopping for Christmas that I have ran out of time. My grandmother lives 10 hrs away and I am trying to figure out what to get her for Christmas...I wish i would have ordered something about 3 weeks ago but as a dumb A$$ I didnt. SO... heres the scoop./..she lives by herself (grandpa passed away). She cant drive, her sight is pretty bad, cant wear lotions, perfume, makeup....allergic... shes diabetic......ANY Idea? I went around my podunk town to find like a nice frame with grandma or a statue but found NOTHING!!!:(.. HELP!!!!!! |
Ummmmm......... How about a big box of groceries or every day items that she uses (even stuff that she may like, but may not buy for herself) OR gift certificates to her nearby store? Most stores, you can call and do your credit card and they will mail the card. ((I know one year we did my grandmother --who was 97 at the time -- a box of coffee, box food, canned food, paper products, etc.....it was a big hit)) Maybe even a gift basket w/ new house shoes ---no not the ones posted earlier made out of maxi pads!!! --- and a night shirt, robe, etc. There's always the flowers and stuff for the yard. OR even just a vase of flowers (and a box full of her favorite candies and snack foods). Good luck! |

I have a friend who likes to read so last year I bought her a book, new fuzzy slippers and a package of gourmet hot chocolates to keep her toasty on a chilly evening while she read her book. I know you said your Grandmother's sight isn't so good but does she have a tape player to listen to the narrated books or can she read large print? Then everytime she put on her slippers and had a cup of gourmet hot chocolate she could think warm thoughts of you :) |
Grandparents have always been my hardest to shop for.........mainly because they have decades of stuff piled in their houses and have pretty much everything they need. --unless they hint or tell you something that they need --and that doesn't happen very often does it? Money may seem impersonal, but it is much needed - it can go for bills, medical, etc. Oh, JCPenny had some really cute "mom" "grandmother" "daughter" etc jewelry sets (necklaces, rings, items like that) - on sale and then 50% off the sale price! |
how about a duster? and than she really likes tea...so i thought maybe a nice duster and than a nice tea mug and some variations of tea? what ya'll think about that? |

I like the tea idea - you can put in all in a nice basket too. Maybe a nice new tea pot or kettle and various tags (there are so many out there) and maybe even a nice new tea cup/saucer set. You can put a duster in the basket too! |
The grocery idea is a great one. The truth of the matter is that our elders living on a fixed income might have to cut corners. So if you can get that then I think it would be a good gift that keeps on giving. Do you have anyone that lives nearby grannie that can help out? |

I think a nice warm blanket/throw she can use while sitting in her favorite chair would be nice. Elderly people tend to always be cold. |
As far as the money goes...you have to be sneaky sometimes. I used to leave money in my Grandma's coat pockets or her kitchen smock pockets, that way she would think she put it there and forgot about it. |

Here goes.... When Ron's grandmother turned 80 we bought her a sparkly g-string panty! She was so funny -- she loved her new HAT! She wore that g-string on her head all evening and we had laugh after laugh (she really knew what they were) and many good memories were made and shared that night. |
warm nightgown, robe, slippers, tea, homemade treats i.e. muffins or something. Bastet with the muffins and tea. |
