I don't know what to do...... I have a dilemma and I have no idea what to do. I need to choose what high school I want to go to....and it's really hard. I've had my mind set on going to Spotswood for High School for as long as I can remember. (I'm in 8th grade....getting time to make a decision as to where I'm going). Most of my friends are going to Spotswood (save the few who are leaving us and going to a private school :() Anyway, today some students from VoTech High School came to talk to us and explain their school to us. It's a trade school. It goes from 8:45-3:30. From 8:45-1 there's academics, then lunch, then after lunch to 3:30 is the class you auditioned for. They have an incredible incredible incredible performing arts/theatre program. One of the kids who came to talk to us is a senior, and he's already been accepted into Rutgers for theatre and dance. Most of you know that I'm incredibly interested in theatre. and it IS what I want to do with my life. going to VoTech would look amazing on my college application and it would give me so much expierance. But the downside is that I'd be away from all but one (that I know of) of my friends. I'd still get to see them after school and everything...but it's not the same. and plus, going to this school pretty much sets in stone that I'm going to be in the performing arts. I have no clue what school to go to. It's all I've been thinking about since that assembly ended........ |
Well..what is more important to you..? if you choose the other school will you still be able to keep in touch with your friends? You will see them after school..then if it was me i'd go to the performing arts H.S. if thats really what you want to do. Good Luck on your decision!! |
The most important thing in life is to go where we are sure to be happy . If you like theatre than go with the school that have this option . I had the same decision to make and I chose to go to university . I was a vet assistant and wanted to be a vet . Actually , I don't regret my decision . Learning seems hard from time to time but I know its worth it . Good luck . |
If Votech is where you want to go, then you should go. Do not hold yourself back just because your friends are going to a certain school. Follow your dreams and you will have no regrets. |
If that is the route you ould rather take, you will make new friends and still have your old ones. Good luck on whatever you choose. You're a very mature girl, I'm sure you'll make the right choice. |
I agree that you can make new friends, but I mean honestly, if you have talent, a college isn't going to NOT accept you because you didn't go to some fancy school. I went to a very poor and "low academic" high school, and I got accepted into a very competitive pharmacy college! |
I think it's a little hard to get opinions (on a forum) on a issue such as the school to go to. I'd suggest going to which ever school has better academics. |
You will probably make new friends at VoTech and still stay in touch with your current friends ... AND studying what interests you a lot .... go for it. One of my students went to the HS for Performing Arts in NYC and he is on Broadway now ... |
Megan just remember there is no wrong decision. Either way you will get a good education as you appear to be a very dedicated person. The little I know of your from here you have a real passion for theatre and pursuing it will allow you to see if it's where you truly want to be in the future. You will make friends at the new school too and keep friends fron grade school as well. Good luck in your decision. Also couldn't you transfer next year if you find the one you pick isn't where you want to be. |
I agree with the others, Megan, specifically Patti. There is no wrong decision. And don't think going to the votech school sets your career or your life in stone. You have time to change your mind. I didn't know what I wanted to do until after my first year of college, and even then it changed to a related field and then back again. (And no jokes about what I loser I turned out to be!) I say the more different things you can expose yourself to, the better, as long as doing so is interesting and makes you happy. Good luck in your decision! |

The main question I would ask, is the regular academic program just as good at VoTech? Why? Because you are very young and may change your mind. So many people start out wanting to go in one direction only to find another along the way they like better. Even after college, many wind up in careers that are no where near their majors. So, just be sure to give yourself the best preparation for whatever life brings your way. Good luck! |
