Do you know where you came from? I just love knowing stories about people. Their ancestors, their life, their nationality. Family trees, their truimphs, their defeats, their struggles. Its just an inspiration. |
I Hope this is not in bad taste. My family comes from Scotland and England from the 17th century. The people who came to america from our family were very poor. They came here because they were starving, or their children were starving. They came here to work in coal mines, and would do any work really to benefit their families. Now most of those families are spoiled. We worked hard. No one else wants to share? |
I would share but I really don't know much about my background. I know I am Pennsylvanian Dutch and Indian but that is about all I know. I wish I knew more. None of my family really wants or has ever talked about the past much. |
Im Indian and belong to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. |

Totally awesome:animal-pa |
Thank you. I would like to learn more from you. |
DNA tested Hi Everyone! I was so curious about my roots I paid for a continental DNA test; your dna is compared to people from Europe, Asia, Africa and America (Native Americans/The First Americans). Mine came back mostly European from my paternal side (Irish and English) and I am 1/8 Native American from my maternal side (Cherokee or Creek) I have spent countless hours researching my background, it is very addictive and many interesting facts can be found on the net. Hey any Montague or Nix surname connections out there? If so let me know, we may be connected. How kool that would be?!! |
Dalexa Thank you so very much. |
My ancestors came predominantly from England with a few being from Ireland and Switzerland. My mothers blood line comes from the "Tudors" of England. My father side is predominantly Italian, with the exception that his great Grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. She was kidnapped from her tribe and became my Grandfathers (An Italian soldier) wife  I definitly take after my mothers side more, I'm about as pale as they come without the sun (thank god for self tanner!!) and I have blue eyes and white blonde hair. Most of my other siblings take after my Fathers side and are darker, more olive toned and have darker hair. |
DNA test OH and I forgot; I am a few drops of African American, approx 2%. I think everyone should know who they are...some would probably be very surprised and possibly more tolerant of others. Some other surnames I am connected to: Graves, Walker, Walkingstick, Browning, Owens, Wall or Walls, many more but they are on down the line. The one I am really trying to find a connection with is Montague..my Father's Father vanished in or around 1906 and left a wife and 5 little kids and was never seen again...we know very little about him but he had a brother Broaddus and they came from north central Texas and either Tennessee or Mississippi before that. Sorry if I am boring you all to sleep but this is another passion of mine. Dana |
omg i am everything. ok here we go.... mom's grandmother (my great grandmother) irish mom's grandfather "" italian dad's mother (my grandmother) 100% cherokee indian dad's father """" 100% german my grandmother on my fathers side and before were all american indians WELL ME......I AM A MUTT |
My maternal great grandmother is from Switzerland. She was married and had a son. Her husband was killed, so she decided to come to American to make a better life for herself and her son. She didn't have enough money for ship passage for both herself and her son, so she came by herself and worked as a domestic in New York, saved her money and then sent for her son. He came over by himself at age 7 - can you imagine a month on the ship, alone and 7 years old! My great grandfather was living in Kansas and somehow, I'm not sure of the particulars, he knew the people that my great grandmother worked for in New York and he told them he was looking for a wife. My great grandmother said that she would marry him, so he went to New York, they got married, and came to Kansas in a covered wagon. When they opened up the Oklahoma Territory for homesteading - they ran for land, homesteaded, and that is the story! I know that my maternal grandfather was Dutch, my father was Italian and French and I don't know any more about my dad's family - he and my mom were divorced when I was very small and I never knew anything about his family. I don't know much about the rest of my family! I guess I should try to find out. |
My ancestors came mostly from Ireland. I'm not sure around what time period. I think my great-great-great (maybe another great?) Grandmother was the first to come over. Her name was Missouri something...(don't know her last name.) There's Irish on both my mom's and dad's side. We don't know much else about my dad's side, because his father was raised in an orphanage. We do know that my last name should actually be McArthur, but that's a really long story. Allow me to sum it up: My Grandpa (in the orphanage) had always been told his last name was what my last name is now. When he grew up, he found out that was actually his mom's last name, and his dad's last name was McArthur. He changed his name, but my dad kept his. So yeah. I'm (mostly) Irish...and proud of it. :p |
Star-trek You know who you are. The people. Every walk of life. We connect. It is very sad. Are you challenging us? If you are, we do not take challenges lightly. Talk to an Indian..........:wavey: |
i don't know too much My great grandfather on my mom's side came to america from Ireland. and one of my distant cousins put together a HUGE family tree with pictures of everyone dating pretty far back. If i find the link I'll post it, he put it all online. |
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com...niel-J-Devlin/ there is the site. It's all about the devlin family! If you click on "list of individuals" and scroll to Campbell, Elizabeth that would be me about 3 years ago. pretty interesting stuff. |
Okay. |
I have a hugely demanding hobby in doing genealogy! That has taken a back seat to my new hobby, Yorkies! At any rate, I have traced my ancestors as far back as England in the 1500s and Norway in the 1800s. Norweigian genealogy is pure torture! |
family I am from one of the orginial families that left England and settled on Tangier Island. It is an island only 3 miles long in the Chesapeake Bay, VA..family names were Parks, Crocket, Pruitt..there are no cars on the island, only bikes and alcohol is not allowed..many of the people still speak with an olde English dialect.. I still have family living there... |

My family is from Spain, traveled from Spain to Cuba by ship in 1896 where they settled and became farmers. My father, who never like farming, came to the United States in the 1940's to continue his studies (he was a scholar). He was suppose to go back to Cuba where he planned to obtain a position in the capital city of Havana... BUT... a week before he was due to return, his friends threw him a farewell party where he met a beautiful young lady (my mother)... that was it... He never returned except to visit. |
It is a very simple way of life...there are no stores, only homes, a school, small hospital, churches, summer cottages and a couple B&B's...you have to take a boat to Crisfield, Md for everything..people make their living off the water..soft shell crab capital of the world... Very quaint, but all my brothers and sisters left..the life of a waterman is very difficult. |
My mom is real big on genealogy (sp?) and family history. My ancestors come from all sorts of countries/cultures. I know I am related to Benjamin Franklin(we are actually related to his sister thrugh marraige) and we are also related to Francis Scott key (the guy who wrote the star spangled banner) and also Patrick Henry. |
My mothers fam. is Spanish Mex. and Indian. My fathers Fam. is Mex. and Indian. Some family members are light complected w/blond or red hair and blue or green eyes. Others are darker w/brown hair.
