She literally froze to death! This is crazy! My husband's brother's girlfriend was found frozen to death in a car parked at the mall. She supposedly was getting a ride home with some guy from work...the car stalled or didn't start, so he caught a ride with someone else and she must have gone into the mall, because he came back later and she wasn't in the car. This all sounds fishy to me...why would someone sit in a car and freeze to death when there is a nearby place to seek shelter? Only thing I can think of is she got drunk, went to the car and passed out...but if she was so drunk, how would she even be able to find the car? They found her curled up in a ball in the car, so she must have noticed it was cold. I didn't know her well...just from family get-togethers. I visited with her at Thanksgiving and when they left I told her I'd see her at Christmas. I think she had a drinking problem and I feel bad that she never decided to seek help for her problem and now she's dead. Don't you all think there's probably more to the story? Just seems fishy to me!!! |
WOW! I'm not sure what to say about this.....I do agree that something is very fishy with this. You make very valid points and pose very good questions. Please keep us updated. I am very curious to see what comes of this. |
I'm sorry to hear this. It does sound like theres more to the story. Has an autopsy been done yet? I mean if she was drunk, she could've gotten hypothermia if she was out there long enough. But why would the guy even leave her there in the first place? |
How horrible. Yeah, maybe it was the drinking thing. I've heard of people doing that before.. Getting drunk and dying of hypothermia after passing out. |
OMG...Connie - how horribly sad, I'm so sorry for your brother-in-law and your family. What a shock this must be. I do agree there is probably more to the story. Bless her heart. |
OMG.....I'm so sorry!!!! That is so terrible. I cant imagine freezing to death. Something had to happen where she was not able to physcially get out of the car and go else where. Maybe she passed out from being drunk, or maybe someone gave her something. That is just so terrible. I hate when things like that happen and it makes it even worse around the holidays. Her poor family. I'll keep them in my prayers. I think it does sound fishy too!! |
A drunk woman often can still find her way to her car...you girls know that. Further, if she was in fact drunk and it was that cold, it's not unlikely that she was feeling warm and in reality her core temperature was dramatically dropping until it got low enough she passed out...and well, you told us the rest. It's a shame either way and doesn't seem so fishy. Didn't you say that there was someone w/ her though? Or just left her? If so, THAT sounds weird. Especially knowing that this person was willing to let a drunk individual drive, let alone in freezing temperatures (snow/ice-more hazards than usual). I'm sorry for the loss. I wish your family the best. |
Wow, how sad! It's tragic when things like this happen. It doesn't sound fishy to me. I had a friend in college that died the same way. He was really, really drunk, and some of his other friends left him in the car during the night, and they found he had passed away when they checked on him in the morning. Soo soo sad. I'm sorry about your fam. member. |
I am so sorry. It does sound a little odd to me. I can't imagine not trying to get out of the situation unless you are totally and completely intoxicated of some sort. YOu did mention that she had a drinking problem and it turned out to be the death of her. My question is - if she made plans to get a ride home with a friend and he managed to get help, how good of a friend was he that he left her without checking on her? That's the fishy part. |
Okay...here's the latest I've heard. She didn't even have her coat on...if I remember right, it was -17 wind chill during the day and most likely colder that evening. She was using her jacket as a pillow. Now I'm thinking about how people with hypothermia get so sleepy...all they want to do is sleep...and she probably didn't even realize that she was so cold and just wanted to sleep. The guy whose car she was in says she wasn't in it when he came back to check and that he asked security people to look for her. I'm sure I'll be hearing more and I'll let you know. She's been sent to Bismarck for an autopsy. I guess that's where they do the unattended death ones. This was such a senseless death...if it had happened out in the middle of nowhere, but right here in town! |
Gosh Connie that is awful. I wonder if she was drinking? If she had just got off work I doubt it huh? Why didn't she tide back with whoever the guy from work did? I'm sure you all are asking many questions. What a senseless death, how old was she? How is your brother? |
SSoooooooo sad. Maybe he, the friend, was drunk too. He looked into the car but didnt notice she was laying down. He may have been looking for someone sitting up and just gazed into the windows. The temperatures you mentioned............it wouldnt take long if you fell asleep, especially if you took your coat off. I certainly dont know the whole story..............but God bless ten fold. |
Dumba** left her in the car, went to get help, came back, she was gone, so he left, and then she was found in the car dead. So they are thinking she was in the mall drinking (where?) when he came back for her and then at some point made it back to the car and died. That is so bizzare. What about calling someone on the cell to say hey it's freezing, I'm headed to the mall to have a drink (again where?) call me when you bring help? Or why didn't she call her boyfriend for a ride or her folks or ???? Am I confused? |
Yikes.... I have a chill just thinking about it! |
WElllJMO but the story doesn't make sasense at all. First off this drunk thing makes no sense to me unless I am reading wrong. First off you said they were leaving the mall and he was from work. So if they were just leavign work where did the drinking come in? Plus if she had left the car and came back drunk enough to pass out the smell would have been OBVIOUS in a closewd up car. Plus I'm still trying to make sense of why the guy left her ther in a freezing car ? I'm guessing maybe she could have said I'll go inside the mall while you get help but if the mall was closed or he was leavign to go somewhere else and wouldn't be back for quite awhile.... this makes no sense. Then you say the guy came back... so where was the guy all this time . I thought he was getting help? Then I ask help for what.. to jump start the car or something? Well you said his friend with a car was there and that this guy got in the car so why didn't they just ride to a security guard or close gas station and get jumpers and come back. THEN ....The coat pillow ting only makes sense if originally the car was Heated and the car was running . I can definately see she maybe did this if the heat was on and she was waiting for somebody but that would blow the whole car starting thing. So where did this GUY say he went and how long was he gone. That seems a fairly easy question left out of the equasion(sp.?). Also if she was so drunk... did anybody say they smelled alcohol on her and in the car ? this seems like an easy thing to answer also. |
That's aweful!!! Maybe she was not feeling well, and passed out? Who knows... i'm sure they will find out. |
OMG no way ! That's horrible - what an awful thing to happen to someone you know :( :( :( :( :( oh wow - did she have kids ??? |
I am so sorry for your BIL's loss. Please give him our best. And please keep us informed. We ALL want to know what really happened! |
why wouldn't she have called her bf or family to get her? doesn't make sense?!! who just sits in a car out in the freezing cold long enough to freeze to death????? |
Didn't either one of them have a cell phone to call for help when car broke down to begin with? |
The autopsy results were that there was no foul play and that she died of hypothermia. You won't believe what her alcohol blood level was...3.6!!! .8 is legally drunk and she was 3.6? Seems to me if she hadn't froze to death, she would still have died from alcohol poisoning. It's still a very weird deal...no bottle found in the car...this other guy who was giving her a ride...maybe she was having a fling with him...who knows. I'll probably hear more, but I'm sure there's some that we will never know. So sad that people become so dependent on alcohol and don't know when to stop...or get help. |
OH, WOW! How bizarre and sad!:( |

Wow that horrible...Something doesn't seem right to me...If her coworker that was supposed to drive her home found someone to pick him up, why didn't they give her a ride, too? Why did he just leave her there and then go back to check on her later??? |
That is crazy! I'm sorry this happened but at least we know now. |
