I need a recommendation for a digital camera! I have an old Sony Mavica digital camera that takes pics and saves them to a floppy. I love the thing but it is big and requires frequent battery charges. Last year, I bought a Concord. It is small, takes good pictures, but only runs on disposable batteries. It seems I am replacing batteries every 10 pictures or so and it is driving me nuts. Even with the memory card upgrade, the thing will only hold 10 pictures or so. I want one with a decent size memory card/ or capable of a memory card upgrade, a rechargeable battery that lasts for more than a few shots, and of course quality pictures without too much input from me. I do want one with a flash. I would rather keep the price to below $400. What camera would you recommend? |
I have a Canon Powershot A520. Easy to use, bought extra memory card that holds tons of pics. Has many settings, from kids & pets, to videos. Very easy to use. I got it as a present but I believe it was around 200.00, memory card extra. I use rechargeable batteries in it and they last a long time...I always have 2 extra charged up. This is just my 2 cents, I am sure there are better ones out there, but this one works for me :) |
I love the Kodak Easy Share C875. My hubby just bought it for me for Christmas. It is so easy to use and it even has 85 minutes of video you can you. So its like a camera and video all in one. The length of the video depends on the size memory card. We got it as Walmart for 259.00 its also 8.0 mega pic. I had the Kodak Easy Share before this but it was only 4 mega pic. I love the Kodak ones. I would recommend getting the 1 Gig memory card for it. around 29.00 I would not go any lower than 512 on the memory card. |
I have a Kokak c643 6.1 Megapixil. I bought my camera from Staples -- on clearance for $119 -- I also bought their one year guarantee. For one year I can take the camera back and get my $119 towards another camera -- no questions asked. I wish I had the plan when I dropped my other camera :( I also bought the 1 gig sd memory card |
I have the Sony cybershot and love it...its really easy to use and has a big screen on the back so you can see your pics easy...:) |
I have the Sony P-200 ... I am sure there are better ones ... but for the $$$ this one is great ... stills and videos, a rechargeable battery (not flashlight batteries) ... get any SD card you want... 512 mb or even better is 1G. Good Luck ... price is below 200$ herez some info on digital cameras that may be useful ... you can check out Kodak also .... http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digi...0_reviews.html |
Canon is supposed to be the best brand you can buy. I recommend those, even though I don't own one. Several of my friends have them and love 'em. I have a Nikon Coolpix, and while it works fine, I find that it takes too long to 'refresh' after taking a picture. Good luck in your search! |
I have a Nikon Coolpix and I also hate how long it takes to recharge the flash. It also takes blurry pictures inside no matter what you do. I am also researching new cameras with my camera savvy brother's help. He told me to get a Canon SDXXX. (The models change monthly I can't keep up.) The Canon SD's are the skinny almost credit card sized ones that can fit in your pocket and have a 3" LCD screen. They take decent pictures and have a 4x zoom. The camera that I *really* want is the Canon S3, which is a big camera almost as big as a professional SLR. Dell has them usually for about $330 and places like Target & Best Buy have them for $399. It has TONS of options and a 12x zoom. It has a BIG lens and a pop up flash that is supposed to reduce red eye. But you have to be willing to learn how to use it. A couple things to think about are: Get a 6+ Mpix. I think 12 is equal to 35mm but unless you want pictures bigger than 8x10 you'll be fine with anything 6 or above as long as you get a good camera. Most small cameras have a 4x optical zoom and a 12x digital zoom. Digital zoom does nothing more than crop the photo and you loose quality. So never compare digital zoom, always compare optical zoom. If you just want point and shoot, get any Canon 6+ Mpix in the SD or A series. Nikon and Fuji are also good alternatives. Buy a camera made by a "camera" company. Not Sony or HP. You'll be fine :D If you really want to do the research try this website: http://www.dpreview.com/ |
I have a Lumix Panasonic. It takes great pictures and has a large screen. I love it. |
Thanks everyone! I went with the Sony Cybershot 7.2 MP and a 1 GB memory card. It was between that and the Canon Powershot A 620. Both are very highly rated. However, I ended up with more battery life with the Sony. I have always been happy with Sony products. Time will tell if I made the right choice. If anyone is interested, Staples.com has a great deal right now on the Canon Powershot. It comes bundled with a photo printer for $249 if memory serves. |

Good luck and now you can take new pix .... |
I would get either Panasonic Lumix DMC FX07 or canon sd700is http://www.shop.com/op/~Panasonic_DM...794?sourceid=3 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EN0K94/...m&linkCode=as1 They both are good with image stabilizer. You will be very happy since it will takes good picture of moving object or subject. |
The Minolta Dimage Xt Digital, it takes great pictures and I love it being small as is easy to carry in pocket, only thing I don't like is the control knobs to go from taking pictures to viewing, difficult for me. They are so small and hard to turn IMP. Patti |
I wouldn't trade my Kodak Easyshare Z740 for anything. It's wonderful and easy! |
I just recently got the Canon SD900!!! I love it!!! I think it takes such great pictures!!!!!! |
I got a Canon SD600 for my graduation. I LOVE it! I had a Canon before, but this one is super thin. It is very easy to take good pictures. I believe I paid about $300 for it. |
So glad I found this thread! Looking for a decent digital, myself. |
So far I like the Sony Cybershot. The battery charges fast and the camera is very small. I'm looking forward to taking some pics this next week. My secret buddy gift is due to arrive! |
Hubby and I went out last night and bought a Canon A630. AWESOME camera. We just love it. The one feature that I like...and one of the reasons we bought this model is that the screen opens and like a video camera can be turned around, etc. It allows for taking pictures from difficult angles. I researched for weeks online, checking out consumer reports, tests, etc., and found the canon to be the best camera by far. A bit more costly, but worth it in the long run. Oh, also make sure that your camera has a viewfinder. More and more cameras don't have them anymore as people are relying solely on the screen to look at while taking their pictures...but if it's a sunny day, if your battery is low, the screen is useless. |
I LOVE my Sony Cybershot! I got my camera yesterday and Gracie's secret buddy gift came today. What great timing! I rate this camera a 10/10. The battery charges fast, it takes crystal clear pics even when the subject is moving, it has a large LCD screen and a view finder. It has all kinds of bells and whistles that I have not yet explored. But I did take pictures and upload to YT without having to read any instructions. If your Santa list is not yet complete.... |
Congrats on your new camera. I am glad you are happy with it. Now, where are the PICS? You have NO excuses..... |
