Best Banana Pudding Recipe In The World BETTER THAN YOUR GRANMA'S PUDDING as taught to me by my best friend Sharonda Bryant 1 and 1/2 cups of flour 2 cups of sugar 4 egg yolks at room temperature 2 cups of whole milk 1 can of Borden's condensed milk plus a full can of water 1 can of Carnation Evaporated milk plus a full can of water 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 1 package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese room temperature or slightly melted in microwave 2 to 3 boxes of Vanilla Wafers 1 and half bunches of bananas This recipe requires your full attention to stir NON STOP once turn on the stove. Cut up bananas FIRST in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap to keep from browning too fast and open boxes of wafers. In a separate bowl combine sugar and egg yolks slowly together until will blended adding some of the milk to make it easier to mix. Once that is done start to slowly add in flour using additional milk to make mixing easier until you have mixed in all flour. This is the base of the pudding and your thickening agent. Set this bowl to the side for a minute. In a large pot on medium heat pour the remaining milk, the Carnation Evaporated milk, fill can with water and add, the Borden's Condensed milk, fill can with water and add, and the vanilla extract and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. I like to soften and stir the cream cheese before I add it. STIR. Add pudding base to mixture and STIR. Slowly cook over a medium to medium low heat stirring CONSTANTLY> DO NOT STOP STIRRING!!!!!! It is important that you stir and scrape from the BOTTOM of the pot too!! Otherwise you may scorch something. You will be stirring for while so do not turn up the heat to speed things up either! The pudding WILL start to thicken. Once it thickens test some by dabbing a little on a cup or saucer and see if it sets as it cools, YOU SHOULD STILL BE STIRRING WITH ONE HAND WHILE YOU DO THIS!!! If you take it off too soon you will have a mess that won't set properly once you assemble and you will have wasted a lot of time and money for your unwillingness to keep stirring and just plain laziness. Once pudding is done remove from heat. In your favorite casserole dish or what have you, spread some bananas and vanilla wafers on bottom of dish. This does not have to be neat and pretty either. If you choose to waste time neatly placing the bananas and wafers your pudding will set in the pot! With a large spoon or dry measuring cup ladle pudding on top and spread. Add additional bananas and wafers and ladle with pudding on top. Do this until you have used up all the pudding in the pot. Now you can arrange some wafers on top in a neat rows for presentation if you'd like. Cover and place in the refrigerator to cool and set, about 3 to 4 hours or overnight. All the stirring will be worth it because if you do it right you will find yourself sneaking into the refrigerator in the middle of the night for a big bowl. This stuff is addictive so be warned. My favorite and oh so easy. granny's banana Pudding 1(8) oz Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese(softened) 2and1/4 c. milk 24 vanilla wafers 1 (3and1/2 oz instant vanilla pie and pudding mix 2 cups banana slices combine cream cheese and 1/2c milk, mixing at medium speed with electric mixer until well blended. Add remaining milk and pudding mix. beat at low speed one minute, layer one third of pudding mixture, half of wafers and half of bananas in a 1 and 1/2quart serving bowl. repeat layers. Top with remaining pudding or cool whip. i always end up with wafers in a circle on top. i don't use the cool whip. Cover chill. Right before serving you can garnish with more banana slices. |
