| Tillys_mom | 11-27-2006 11:14 PM | My brothers first dog purchase... It didn't turn out as great as I wished it would have. My brother saved back his money to get his girlfriend a puppy for Christmas. She always plays with our Yorkies and comments on how cute Yorkies are so initially he wanted to get her a Yorkie. He seen an advertisment in the paper for puppies for sale. He called and drove about an hour to get to the puppies. Once he got there he realized that Yorkies are a little more pricey than he thought but the lady had some other dogs for sale also. He decided to get a Rat Terrier. He was so excited he called me on his way back in town to tell me what he had done and asked me if I wanted to see her. I of course said yes! I was just as excited as he probably was. So he comes over with his new baby wrapped in a blanket. If you would know my brother it's something you wouldn't see often as he tries to act "tough" infront of everyone, he is seventeen. The puppy didn't want to move much, but I didn't think anything of it. I thought it was just cold. So my brother leaves my house and goes back to my parents house with the dog and he calls his girlfriend to tell her he had a suprise for her. When she saw the puppy she cried. They both were so attached to the puppy already. They ended up naming her Haylee, after both of their names. The dog stayed at my parents in my brothers room and mom watched it while he went to school. She noticed the dog wasn't acting right. It wouldn't eat or drink and her paws were like ice. As the day went on the dog got worse. The dog would pee and just lay in it. Mom went to pick her up and she said her head went back like it couldn't hold its head up. She told my brother the dog needed to be looked at so in tears he rushed her down to the previous owner to see what he should do. They then told him she had sugar problems (which they didn't tell him when he got her) and if he wouldn't of brought her there she could of easily died. That was so scary for them. They had no clue what was wrong with her! They didn't act like they wanted to give my brother his money back, they wanted him to get a different breed of dog, a much bigger dog, and that's not what he wanted. I guess the lady finally gave him his money. The lady must have a reputation of selling sick puppies because mom spoke with another lady and it sounded like the same lady that my brother got the dog from. Their dog died a few weeks after they got it from her. I wish I could of been with him to see what type of facility she was really running! It sounds like she is just out to make a few dollars and could really care less. I wish he would of had a better first time experience. |
